Dead Island Sells 4 Million Units - News

Deep Silver development directoy Guido Eickmeyer has announced that Dead Island has sold more than four million units at a gathering at GDC Europe. He contributed the games co-op mode as the main reason for the games success. Also noted is that the majority of the games sales occurred after the initial launch period.

"Dead Island succeeded because it is the most exciting cooperative experience that is on the market," Eickmeyer said. "We took over the project three years ago. It wasn't in good shape. We looked at it and we felt it wasn't heading in the right direction. Internally, as a team, we sat down and we made an analysis and we thought, ‘What can we deliver?'"

The studio had decided to focus on the elements that they were good at and try leave out things the team has shown a weakness in. The studio strayed away from a more story oriented game, in which it did not have the resources to do. The story in the end ended up being 'cheesy.'

"It is definitely cheesy," Eickmeyer said. "It's as cheesy as wrestling and Rambo movies. You don't want to take yourself too seriously. You don't want to take your title too seriously."
