Welcome to the all new VGChartz Gap chartz. If you visited this article before you'll remember 5 distinctive charts, Xbox 360 Vs. PlayStation 3 in every region, plus a Global chart, as well as a Wii Vs. PS3 & 360 (HD) chart. As this generation begins to come to a close most of these charts were very unlikely to show any sort of change in direction, so they have been retired. The PS3 Vs. Xbox 360 Global chart remains, still managing to duke out who wins 5 years down the line, this is still very much an interesting battle to watch. I've added two new charts to make up for the loss, Wii Vs. Xbox 360 in Americas, and Wii Vs. Playstation 3 in EMEAA. Both the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 have been and should continue to diminish the gap in their respective regions and may even come close to overtaking the Wii. Later in the year I will be adding a PSvita and Nintendo 3DS gap chart.
Global:
Gap change in August: 154,122 - Playstation 3
Gap change over last 12 months: 518,332 - Playstation 3
Total Lead: 3,2077,691 - Xbox 360
Things are hotting up again in the gaming industry, a slew of games for both systems meant they were up vastly on August, yet the gap change for the month was almost identical to last month: 154,000 units to the PS3. Microsoft didn't cut the 360, and instead relied on Gears of War 3 to boost the console, and it managed to do so, beating the PS3 for the last two weeks of September. Going forward it's still unclear what Microsoft's plans are. Until they unveil them it's hard to tell which console the month of October will go to. As of now they're almost at a stalemate, and with the holidays coming it's unlikely the 360 is going to fall near previous levels.
Americas:
Gap change in August: 246,307 - Xbox 360
Gap change over last 12 months: 876,577 - Xbox 360
Total Lead: 8,660,477 - Wii
As predicted, Gears of War 3 boosts the X360's gains this month above 200k. In fact the X360 managed a 2:1 ratio Vs. Wii. All consoles should start seeing a holiday boost soon. However, with Wii still below the 50,000 unit mark, and the X360 around the 100,000 mark for the upcoming week, it looks like 360 could wipe another 200k off the gap.
EMEAA:
Gap change in August: 191,736 - Playstation 3
Gap change over last 12 months: 666,093 - Playstation 3
Total Lead: 9,147,563 - Wii
With a full month of price cut, the PS3 almost managed to outsell the Wii 2:1. Fifa managed to give the PS3 a nice lift, and so it shouldn't drop down too much now as the seasonal lifts kick in. PS3 should also outsell the Wii by 150,00+ for the month of October.

Well if Wii an repeat next year holidy season it would be great. but 360 and PS3 are not doing well, is Wii that is doing bad!
I think Wii is done, problem is lack of major software. There are so many awesome games coming out for PS3 and XBOX 360 and nobody wants to play those games on a Wii. I think for the first time ever Wii will not see a major boost over holidays. Especially since Wii U is just around the corner.
I wonder if Wii can top PS3 in EMEAA this holiday. I expect it to top 360 in Americas, but not by much. The Wii vs. graphs should get more interesting when Wii U comes, then the gap will shrink fast.
Not sure if the 3DS vs. PSP graph is needed outside of Japan. I expect the 3DS to crush PSV in sales just as the DS crushed the PSP.
Well, now that 5 years have passed, it's easy to say that the 2 consoles are equivalent in many aspects, even the sales. To compare them in terms of CPU/GPU performances is useless. The PS3 still has the strong points of a standard HDD and a Blu Ray drive, but the X360 has started to have games doing an optional full installations. Well, when the HDD is present, sure. Dark Souls proved that it IS possible to make good games that look identical in both consoles. Then considering that the inferior console sold much more than the 2 other players, one can easily understand how the HW specs are not that important for the market. To me, the console war is over.
It always amazes me how well the Wii did, and why it took so long for the competition to fight back.
The most interesting is still the PS3-360 chart, although I still believe the 360 will keep it, barely.

Super Wii will not have the same success as Wii. The king of the next console generation will either be Microsoft or Sony.
