Publisher Deep Silver and developer 4A Games announced a next-generation update for Metro Redux will launch for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on October 29. It will also be available on PC on October 22.

Users who own Metro Redux on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox one will get the next-generation update for free.

Read details on the update below:

As a huge thank you to our players, we’re announcing that a free update is coming for all owners of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux that makes several improvements and enhancements for modern hardware.

For our longstanding Metro-dwellers, now has never been a better opportunity to return to the Metro tunnels. To relive the story, the action and feel the weight of the cold foreboding tunnels stretching ahead of you, filled with unknown horrors and adventure. Why not try a different playthrough approach this time round and get a different ending using the Karma system? Or simply immerse yourself back into the beautifully destroyed world.

For new players, it’s time to join the 50 million players who fell in love with our acclaimed Metro storytelling and prepare yourself for what’s in store for METRO 2039 come February 4.

So, what have we done? This is not a full remaster or remake—the original Metro Redux experience and aesthetic has been preserved—but we have made careful, meaningful improvements to take advantage of the latest PC and console hardware. All platforms will include support for 4K textures, bringing greater depth and atmosphere to the haunting world of Metro. The update enhances gameplay immersion through improved animation fidelity, higher-quality audio and richer environmental detail. We have also managed to implement a range of community led bug fixes and quality-of-life improvements.

The Metro Redux “Next-Gen Update” adds native support for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, and Xbox Series X|S, alongside platform-specific enhancements such as PSSR support on PlayStation 5 Pro, TSR upscaling and anti-aliasing support on Xbox Series X, and Spatial Audio support on Xbox platforms. Players on console can experience true 4K at 60 frames per second and upscaled 4K at 120 frames per second (with the right monitor or TV hardware), higher quality lighting, shadows and particle effects. Plus, we are supporting Adaptive Triggers for DualSense controllers and Impulse Triggers on Xbox controllers. Players will also benefit from hardware tessellation and displacement at runtime on consoles, Power Optimized Mode on Xbox and Power Saver Mode support for PlayStation.

With Xbox Handheld and Xbox Play Anywhere support, the journey through the Metro can continue wherever you choose.

For PC we have implemented DLSS support, spatial audio support as well as increased quality of life community bugfixes and frequently asked for improvements.

Full patch notes detailing all technical improvements and platform-specific features will be revealed at launch, so this is just a taste for now.

If they fine tune the haptics like they did the last metro for ps5, i will definitely play through these again. Using a shotgun never felt so good in a game.
