Nintendo Updating its "Nintendo Selects" Line?

by Jake Weston, posted on 09 August 2011 / 2,280 Views

Nintendo's "Nintendo Selects" line is basically the Wii version of their "Player's Choice," in which successful games are re-released at budget prices. Earlier this year, they launched the first batch of Nintendo Selects which included The Legend of Zelda: Twlight Princess, Mario Super Sluggers, and Animal Crossing: City Folk.

Now, rumor has it that Nintendo will be updating their line up later this month. Various retailers have reported that Nintendo is planning on re-releasing Super Mario Galaxy, Super Paper Mario, Punch-Out!!, and Mario Strikers Charged for only $19.99 on August 28th.

This is just a rumor at this point, and Nintendo has yet to comment on the validity of these claims.

I hope that these rumors are true, as many of the above games still go for full price new, despite some of them being over four years old. In other news, gamrFeed writer Jake Weston is finally going to be purchasing Super Paper Mario and Punch-Out!! later this month (allegedly).

I've only had my Wii for 6 months or so, but Super Paper Mario has been a title I've been waiting to get for a while. Right now it sells for $35 which I feel is too much for what launched in 2007, but at $20 I will get it. Finally this game will cross 3 million. I hope Metroid Prime 3 gets the same treatment, that game deserves stronger sales.

Good. I don't own Galaxy nor punch out, so I'll probably get them with the Wii U when it comes out.

I'm interested in Super Paper Mario out of those. Well that and Galaxy, but I already have that.

Was Super Paper Mario any good? Like does it retain the charm and wit of the previous PM games or was it kind of a letdown for some? I missed out on it when it came out, but it was $50 for the longest time and now u can't find it anywhere.

lol Super Paper Mario is nothing like the previous Paper Mario games. It's not even the same genre. I have no idea why they called it Paper Mario.

Paper Mario got its name due to its artstyle and since Super Paper Mario uses the same artstyle... well, that explains why it uses the same name.

But regardless, Super Paper Mario is indeed a different kind of game. It's basically a platformer with some RPG elements tossed in, but ultimately neither component can live up to the high quality set by other games. As a platformer it's nowhere near as good as a Super Mario Bros. title and as an RPG it falls far short of the standards set by the previous two Paper Mario games.

It's still an enjoyable game, but its name puts too much of a burden on it. People start playing it with high expectations that are not met which is why many gamers think of it as a disappointment. The charm and wit are still there, but the gameplay skeleton isn't the same.

Punch Out! That is what I didn't add to my thread.

TWRoO (on 10 August 2011)

Haha, and still Twilight Princess sells for full price (or more)

Super Paper Mario is a great Wii game. Loved it when I bought it back in 2007.

gumby_trucker (on 10 August 2011)

at $20, Galaxy would pass the ten million mark by the end of the year! For me, Punchout!! and Mario Strikers would be pretty much an insta-buy.

Shadowfest3 (on 10 August 2011)

Hmm...I'm interested in Super Paper Mario and Super Mario Galaxy. I've played SMG a little but never bought it.

thekitchensink (on 10 August 2011)

Mario Galaxy for $20 is a godly deal. Could sell another 3 million or so at that price.

starbruin (on 10 August 2011)

Super Paper Mario is the only one of these I would get but mainly because I already have two of the others :D

lewisgerm (on 09 August 2011)

super mario sluggers? really? they need to do a better job checking over these articles.

killeryoshis (on 09 August 2011)

Now we just need Brawl in that list and all the Nintendo titles are complete.

Michael-5 (on 10 August 2011)

Metroid Prime 3 as well and everything major from 2007 back to launch is $20 or under.

I can't wait to officially own Super Paper Mario

Zlejedi (on 10 August 2011)

Too little too late - damage to Wii brand was already done but still some more sales of software never hurt and who knows maybe a few dozens of people will buy it because of that.

V-r0cK (on 10 August 2011)

Still waiting for Mario Party 8 to be cheaper

KylieDog (on 10 August 2011)

It isn't likely Wii owners missed out on these first time round, not like they had too many other games releasing to not have time for them.

Arfen (on 10 August 2011)

Nice! Super Mario Galaxy would finally reach the 10 millions selled ( so deserved!!) and Paper Mario & Punch Out are a great deal at this price... Thoy should Update ehis line of games with more frequency

usrevenge (on 10 August 2011)

super paper mario is basically a puzzle version of the original mario. its pretty boring honestly nothing like the original or gamecube paper marios which were awsome RPGs

I'm not sure that Super Paper Mario is even worth $20. Not a "select" title in my opinion......
