Mega Man Legends 3 Officially Cancelled

by Nicholas Taylor, posted on 19 July 2011 / 1,373 Views

Fans wishes came true back in September of last year, when Capcom announced perhaps the most anticipated video game sequel besides Shenmue 3, namely Mega Man Legends 3. The game was set for the Nintendo 3DS... That's right, was.

Today, Capcom have announced that the game has been officially cancelled. You can see the full message at our source, but here are a few snippets.

"Unfortunately it was not felt that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project met the required criteria, and it is with regret that we must announce that the Mega Man Legends 3 Project has been cancelled, meaning that Capcom will not be releasing the Prototype or the full game. Additionally, updates of the Mega Man Legends Developer Room will cease as of today, though the North American Developer Room and its forums will remain open indefinitely."

They go on to say that "We can only express our deepest apologies to all of you who have lent us your unending support, including participation in the Mega Man Legends 3 Developer Room. On behalf of the entire Legends team, please accept our sincere apology for failing to meet the expectations of the fans."

This marks the second Mega Man game to be cancelled in a fairly short amount of time, the previous one being Mega Man Universe. Capcom claims that Keiji Inafune's departure has nothing to do with the game's cancellation.

It's sad to see such an anticipated title get announced, only to get pulled out from underneath its fans once more. Give us your opinions in the comments section.

While RE:Mercenaries 3D met the required criteria, right?

wasn't that the game where the fans were involved in the descision making? So basically they say that the directing body of capcom doesn't think the fan ideas are good enough... nice, nice...

Capcom has fallen even lower in my opinion

Why would they cancel this just out of nowhere like this?!The game was looking awesome WTF! Man, capcom is really starting to piss me off.

Damn Capcom you suck these days. Are you the business mind leeches that ingrained in your hierarchy that because Mega Man doesn't resemble some else's blockbuster franchise, have zombies, giant reptilian monsters or feature SF2 characters that a anticipated cult game that probably wouldn't have cost much to make compared to some of the projects they have planned get scraped? Keiji Inafune was right!

It seems most of those who left were right.

What is happening with Capcom lately?? I was certain when Inafune left that this project was in jeopardy... this is pretty sad as it was nice to have a project with so much fan input...

NinjaV (on 19 July 2011)

No wonder Keiji Inafune left capcom there turning into a bunch of assholes now.

I wonder who will be next to cancel a 3DS game? Things aren't looking good for the 3DS at the moment...

Tammi (on 19 July 2011)

I wonder if it's because the 3DS isn't selling that well?

IamAwsome (on 19 July 2011)

WTF?

dark_gh0st_b0y (on 19 July 2011)

the truth: 3DS hardware sales are not the expected ones, so Ubisoft and Capcom cancelled Assassin's Creed and Megaman for 3DS while it was time a terrible mistake that Nintendo let this happen

Beuli2 (on 19 July 2011)

Good, now they have time to do a Megaman game.
