Capcom Profit Hits $96m for the Fiscal Year, 20% ahead of Forecast
by Jacob Mazel, posted on 06 May 2011 / 2,211 ViewsEarnings week continues, with Capcom's results now out for consumption by the public. For the year to March 2011, Capcom had revenue of 97.716b Yen ($1.214b), ahead of the projected 91b Yen ($1.130b) it had forecast for the year as of the December 2010 quarter. Profits at Capcom reached 7.75b Yen ($96.3m) for the fiscal year, well ahead of the projected 6.50b Yen profit ($80.7m) that had previously been projected. Both profits and revenues were up substantially from the March 2010 year, growing 258% for profit on several major hits, and 46% for revenue.
For the March 2012 year, Capcom has forecast revenues of 86.0b Yen ($1.068b and -12%) and profits of 7.0b Yen ($87m and -10%). Both figures are still strong for a company as big as Capcom, but down from the March 2011 year. It appears Capcom has major titles lined up for the second half of the March 2012 fiscal year, as revenue and profit over the first half of the fiscal year are forecast to be down 36% and 89% from the first half of the March 2011 year - and yet full year targets are down much more modestly.
In the March 2011 fiscal year, Capcom noted it had five titles ship over 1 million units (1m) globally.
- Monster Hunter Portable 3 shipped 4.6m units on PSP through March 2011.
- Dead Rising 2 shipments reached 2.2m units on X360 & PS3 through March 2011.
- Marvel vs. Capcom 3 shipments reached 2.0m units on X360 & PS3 through March 2011.
- Super Street Fighter IV shipments reached 1.6m units on X360 & PS3 through March 2011.
-Lost Planet 2 shipments reached 1.5m units on X360 & PS3 through March 2011.
Capcom also cites Sengoku Basara: Samurai Heroes (PS3 / Wii), Mon Hun Nikki (PSP), and Monster Hunter Frontier Online (X360 & PC) as strong performers in the fiscal year. In the digital arena, Capcom is also very pleased with the performance of its Smurfs title and Zombie Cafe. Strong performance of Western oriented titles and digital games allowed Capcom to ride out the Japanese earthquake fairly well, even though 10 of its Arcade centers in Japan near the impacted areas were briefly closed according to the company.
For the March 2012 year, Capcom aims to meet its forecast by continuining to focus on the growing Western & digital game markets. Capcom will present a more detailed analysis to investors on May 10 regarding its forecast for the March 2012 year.
