Sony Hires Three Firms to Go After PSN Hackers
by Alex Co, posted on 04 May 2011 / 3,572 ViewsFollowing the recent attacks on the PSN, Sony has been adamant that they will apprehend the perpetrators involved. To do this, Sony has hired two teams of private investigators and another team of consultants. Looks like they’re really serious, no?
According to Reuters, Sony has hired Data Forte, it’s led by "a former special agent with the U.S. Naval Criminal Investigative Service” (NCIS) to work with the FBI who are also probing the situation.
Sony has also brought in cyber-security detectives from Guidance Software, the firm specializes in corporate data protection and they too are helping in the investigation.
The last team on the list is consultants from Protiviti, which will help with the “clean-up” from the PSN attacks and its subsequent downtime.
So, Sony has hired three third-party firms to help them out along with the FBI. While Sony might (and we stress MIGHT) have messed up the PSN security, one will have a hard time denying that they’re certainly using whatever it is at their disposal to catch the people responsible. Do you think Sony is doing enough to clean up this mess?
So what happens if they find out the hack originated in China, Iran or North Korea? Do you really think these countries are going to bend over for the Japanese or FBI and turn over the hackers? Money well spent?
''@Dr.Grass LOLOLOL I almost posted a compliment to alex on the improving quality of his articles :p'' @Hephaestos Yeah well I mainly mention it because there was a time not too long ago when the articles section was hardly worth reading. I've just seen a few articles recently that do exactly what articles are supposed to.
@robbie2010: I posted Horatio for people to go "yeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh!!!" before putting on their shades. :) He just seemed more apt as a pic. =)
Oh please catch those mofo pricks and put them in jail for life! I miss me some psn, and I'm not one of those idiots that would trade in a precious ps3 for an xpot.
It's one thing to go after non-profit organizations and the government but when you go after big business, ha. Anon will get a taste of capitalism and its free market. Can't wait to that nerds face, I'm sure it is hideous.
Slice them from hilt to head and feed them their own viscera . . . Hooray :-)
Smart by calling themselves anonymous they can be unknown to each other.
Yeah! Go put those anonymous monkeys in a federal jail :D! PS: by saying anonymous, I don't mean the group.
@Dr.Grass LOLOLOL I almost posted a compliment to alex on the improving quality of his articles :p
@llewdebkram Cave? WTF have you been? Ok your right took about ten years to find him but that cause our trusty friends Pakistan protected him and don't police their northern part of the country. Glad Obama said he'll do some missions in Pakistan or we'll still be looking for him. Any ways not gonna happen here they'll find them fast unless they're from China or Russia.
" Do you think Sony is doing enough to clean up this mess?" No, they need to summon a meteor to crash in to the planet before I can give them credit. :-/
US 'intelligence' and 'special' forces took 10 years to find a bearded hobo who lived in a cave, so good luck with that :P
Sony needs to hire Machete Cortez, or some rogue operative like the dad in Hanna, Beatrix Kiddo, or Tony Stark
thats good and all but it maybe time to bring PSN back up. while im not tierd of waiting many are, and Sony should be mindful of those concerned and address them.
If they hired a former NCIS agent why is a CSI agent featured in the pic in the VGhcartz article??

Yes I thing there doing well in this area, Where I am not happy with Sony is the down time, I like many other people just spend 60 bucks on PS plus not more then 5 weeks ago, Along with all the big titles that have come out that I have spent more money on, and have not been able to play online. It does not seen to be like a hard task to fricken let us know when the network will be back up, I have been understanding about this , but now im getting a bit pissed off about the length of downtime, with out a back up time, Sony really needs to get there ass in gear before everyone takes in the PS3 and gets a 360. may sound like a overreaction, but it will happen, just when PS3 was really coming up, the damage done is hugh in my opinion.
@donferrari- was that aimed at me? I'm simply stating that they need to more precise with their customers i mean why give a timeframe if you aren't sure, just seems like it would furthur agitate people.
For fanboys no response from Sony will be ever enough... and I do hope they can get all the culprits.
WOW look at all these 3rd party exclusives Sony nabbed :O Microsoft will be pissed!
While I do applaud this approach it would be nice if they let their customers know when the network will be back "a week from yesterday" really isn't good enough and if i'm not mistaken wasn't that yesterday?
Ha! they hired Gibbs, gratz for creativity :p (why is the picture of CSI when they hired NCIS?)
If they find who's responsible and prevent further such intrusions from happening again, yes. If not; no.
i love how ignorant consumers demands have been over this whole issue, no one will know the severity of the issue or how long it has taken nor the lengths they've gone to fix it i've been very disappointed in the publics response to this issue not sony's
