'Sonic Generations' Bridges the Gap Between the Generations

by Keith Sadler, posted on 18 April 2011 / 1,269 Views

Upcoming SEGA title Sonic Generations will try to  offer something for every gamer . Those of us old enough to remember when the first Sonic game released nearly 20 years ago will see levels incorporating familiar game play styles in the form of 2D graphics and old-school style game play moves. New gamers will have 3D visual styles and additional new-school style maneuvers as seen in contemporary Sonic games.

Today we’re told that an "an innovative new interactive menu system" will, over the course of the game, reveal new characters and treasures.

“By having the classic 1991 Sonic that many fans know and love team up with his modern day incarnation, we are bringing back the nostalgia of the early days of Sonic and combining it with the innovation and stunning HD technology of the modern gaming era," said David Corless, Global Brand Director for Sonic.

Will a bridging of styles help to rejuvenate the Sonic franchise or has Sonic lost that magic we all remember from being younger gamers? What do you guys think?

bla bla... HD innovation... bla bla bla. Ok, it's comfirmed that they won't publish it on the Wii were they sold most of their Sonic games. Stupid Sega.

Screw the doubters................... This looks simply fantastic. Sonic CD jump sound effect .......... very pleased about that. Sonics speed issues seem have have been dealt with, he speeds up much faster after stopping. Sonic 2D levels & Sonic unleashed 3D levels both in the same game without a warehog or other gimmicks in sight.......... FANTASTIC. Doubt all you like Sonic non believers........... this title will be the bees knees.

"an innovative new interactive menu system" This game could be decent, but they're not exactly doing a good job of convincing me.

The old, chubby Sonic looks way more sympathically than his younger self. Just mentioning.
