Super Street Fighter IV: Evil Ryu Hits Japanese Arcades This Week
by Nicholas Taylor, posted on 23 March 2011 / 1,140 ViewsA lot of people probably think that Super Street Fighter IV is old news now that Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds is out, but it's worth keeping in mind that Arcade Edition has yet to be released outside of, well, Arcades. And even in the Arcades, the whole game isn't out yet. As you may recall, Evil Ryu and Oni were shown with gameplay footage and all a few months ago, which caused widespread panic within Capcom since they weren't meant to be seen yet.
Now, though, Capcom are acting as if it's a big surprise that Evil Ryu is actually in the game, and will be unlocked in Arcade Machines on March 25th. Famitsu had the first details on the character... Well, to be accurate, the first official details. The magazine reported that “Each skill on Evil Ryu launches more slowly than regular Ryu, but tends to have more force. The control feel is nearly the same as Ryu, but the basic attacks that get used the most, like crouching medium or heavy kicks, launch more slowly as well.”
“On the other hand, the opening after firing a hadouken is smaller, which seemed to make him pretty strong in projectile combat. Like Akuma, he doesn’t have much energy, so fighting with him using the same style as Ryu will get you defeated pretty quickly.”
Yoshinori Ono, the game's producer, is still keeping quiet regarding a console release of the highly anticipated Arcade Edition, but has alluded many times to it likely becoming available as DLC sometime down the road. Besides Evil Ryu, Arcade Edition also added Oni (reportedly a new version of Akuma) as well as Yun and Yang from Street Fighter III.
