Nintendo is one of those rare companies that won't release a title they've developed unless they feel it is perfect. Much like Blizzard and Valve they will hold onto a title so that when they do release it, they can stand behind it. This sometimes means they will delay a game beyond the original release date.
Yeah I can be as logical as I want, and I know that the second I get the game I'll magically forget the years I spent waiting for it, but it is still annoying. If it is this annoying for us, just imagine how annoying it would be for the fictional character.
