New Super Mario Bros. Sells 6 Million in Japan, Breaks Records

New Super Mario Bros. (the DS one, not the 4-million-sold-in-Japan Wii version) has just broken the 6 million units sold mark in Japan, making the four-and-a-half-year-old DS game the country's best-selling DS title, according to Japanese media tracking firm Enterbrain (Famitsu's parent company).

Further, NSMB has recently passed Nintendogs and become the highest-selling DS game of all time worldwide, with sales topping 24 million units.  If anyone needed proof that 2D gaming isn't dead, this is it.  Maybe the 142 million DS systems in the world helped his cause.

Oh Mario... 25 years old and still toppin' sales charts all over the place.  What a guy.

All the money they're making off Mario, and they can't even find it in their hearts to give me Tingle RPG 2... T_T

Oh, I disagree Smoked Hostage. Black and White has a decent chance of making 20 million. It has next to no chance of making NSMB DS numbers, though, as that title is going to end up around 30 million in the end.

Sorry Mordred11 but if you think Pokémon Black and White have a chance of selling over 20 million units, you're mistaken.

Mordred11 (on 29 December 2010)

Excellent numbers,I think Black/White has a chance of outselling it though :P

Great game, I'd like to point out a glaring error in this news article though. The sales of NSMB should be combined with the Wii version, because it's basically copypasted with multiplayer tacked on. So it's ten million in total. Booyah!
