2010 Year on Year Sales and Market Share Update to October 23rd - News
by Miles Taven , posted on 29 October 2010 / 6,437 ViewsHere we see data representing the global sales through to consumers and change in sales performance of the three home consoles over comparable periods for 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Also shown is the market share for each of the consoles over the same periods.

"Year to date" sales for 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010 sales are shown in series at the top of the table and then just below a comparison of 2010 versus 2008 and 2010 versus 2009 is displayed. This provides an easy-to-view summary of all the data.
Xbox 360: UP Year on Year this week by 33k. UP Year to date 21.01%
Xbox 360 still remains the only console posting YoY increases, and with the holiday season kicking in they're increasing. With Kinect a mere 2 weeks away it'll be interesting to see if it can claw back the lead and save itself from dropping to 3rd overall.
Wii: DOWN Year on Year this week by 196k. DOWN Year to date -8.41%
The Wii saw a slight adjustment this week, however it is still posting around 200k WoW losses, and should continue going forward. The Wii stands a great chance of losing it's 2010 lead if sales do not pick up soon.
Playstation 3: DOWN Year on Year this week by 14k. UP Year to date 25.19%
PS3 saw significant adjustments this week, meaning it has been trading places with X360 for the number 1 spot over the last few months. It also means the PS3 will be up YoY significantly. Looking forward, it's hard to gauge how the PS3 will do, going by recent weeks it shouldn't fall below last years sales.

After this holiday season, it will be interesting to see the LTD sales after all the excitement has cleared out a bit and the sales go back to normal. If Sony releases GT5 before the holidays then i think their sales will go off the charts.
Michael-5 really does not know what hes talking about, apparently.
@micheal-5 thanks for being close-minded if you had played on move you would know it's not a wiimote clone.....
on topic excellent ps3 sales, I have a feeling that ps3 will carry on these crazy sales for a while
in the year to date sales comparisons the 2010v2008 and % up/down totals should be in black, because (now) 2010 is up compared to 2008
Still have GT5 and $199 price point.
PS3 is a beast, hopefully next year we see $199 and close this mini gap once and for all.
I'm still a little shocked at this sales adjustment. PS3 went from garenteed 3rd place overall to possibly second because of an immitation Wii-Wand with a glowing ball on the end.
I wonder what Kinect will do for the 360..
Well X360 and PS3 will be up yoy but will they offset how far the wii will be down for the year?
Currently looks good but 19 million more between the 3 over the rest of the year. If kinect really moves hardware and GT5 come out I could see it happening. Otherwise might be down to low 40 millions like 42 or 43.
Handhelds are another story entirely. Down and very down.
@Bristow9091
I believe kinect has been shown on Ellen and opera, and getting it on those shows isn't cheep. The audience they are aiming for isn't core games so odds are you will see little of the $500 million Advertising budget.
this is unbelievable, the PS3 is a beast.
Like I suggested last time, PS3 numbers could be reajusted again. I just wasn't expecting so BIG ajustments. PS3 sold more than Wii: 55k in this last week and 97k in the previous one (the 25k and 10k showed in the past are no more a reality). Its seems Move is really doing a great job.
Total ajustments were also made and now Wii is with 47.1% of market share (instead of 47.4%). The prediction I made in the beginning of the year that Wii would drop from 48.9% to 47%-45% seems no more deniable.
I'd be surprised if PS3 ends up falling behind its 2009 total. Given the sales we've seen since Move launch I don't think the holiday deficit will reach 1.8million.
I think Wii's biggest gun this holiday is Epic Mickey. It's a new experience, it's got Mickey Mouse, and it looks fun. It's perfect for the holiday market. DKCR is all well and good for the long time Ninty fan, but Epic Mickey will sell more Wii's. Red Wii will help a lot too, but isn't it a ltd run?
Are those Lifetime figures going to end up on the frontpage anytime soon?
PS3 +1.3 million
Wii +400.000
X360 +200.000
So the gap between the HD-consoles now is 3.9 million instead of 5 ...
PS3 is an absolute beast now. I gotta say I'm enjoying the adjustments.
That Future Forecast Guide paints a pretty grim picture for Wii, i think it will go down even faster the upcoming weeks. Though it's nice to see all three systems so close to each other.
So far Wii has sell more than 10m? Its incredible. D:
This might be the last year where Wii leads hardware sales this gen...
Sexy. PS3 guaranteed to be up YOY. Even after the sales spike and upwards adjustments Wii is still in a rather precarious situation YOY. The odds of it having even a single week up YOY are basically non-existent at this point. It needs to get its shit together over in Japan first and foremost. Come on Nintendo, where the hell is the DKCR release date already? 360 doing amazingly as usual, although I have to wonder if Kinect will put 360 over the the $99 arcade and MW2 weeks from last year.
It appears that this will be PS3 best year yet, things are picking up Nicely for them.
Nintendo should see bigger drops next 2 weeks because they have new bundles coming out in 2 weeks, so customers will wait a bit longer to buy those.
Microsoft will probably be steady or drop a bit because of Kinect bundles will be available in 2 weeks also.
This is yet another benefit to Sony's PS3 because they already have everything on the market.
This year will be the closes year for all 3 consoles competitions wise. We shall see who comes out on top.
What in the hell happened while i was away?
