Blizzard Says That Diablo III is "Way Over Half-Way" Done

by Nicholas Taylor, posted on 25 October 2010 / 1,696 Views

Speaking at a Diablo III press conference at BlizzCon, the game's director Jay Wilson mentioned that the game is "way over half-way done". He also said that while the game isn't exactly feature complete, it's definitely not lacking for content.

Obviously, people want to know when this juggernaut sequel will finally be released, but no dice. Wilson just said “We’re not really close until you’re playing it,” and pointed to a friends and family beta test as a good indicator of that.

What he did say was that while Diablo III might not be "close" to clawing its way out of development hell yet, a friends and family beta test is. One might say that the game is close to being close.

No other word on the completion of the game. Diablo IIi has an as-of-yet unannounced release date, and will be released for PC. Check out our Diablo III preview of the game over at gamrReview.

A beta will be out by the end of next year, and the game will be out by Summer 2012. I'm just following the trend with Starcraft, and neither of the games is less complex than the other (inspired by comparing both original games).

Toastrules# It's taken like 9years now for Diablo3 and GT5 has only taken 5years.And Duke nuke is the leaser with 13years right now.

Way over halfway done on a project that has been in the works for years doesn't exactly fill me with hope and confidence. At that rate, it'll be a couple or three more years, at the very least.

If it's anything like GT5's production, I don't think we'll be seeing it in another half decade or so
