Medal of Honor Week One Sales In

by Brett Walton, posted on 18 October 2010 / 8,396 Views

Following news of around 500,000 units sold on day 1 in the Americas, week one sales (5 days in the Americas and 2 days in EMEAA) have hit nearly 1.4 million units. The game has not had an easy path to retail and with mediocre review scores we expect sales to drop away fairly quickly. With that said and the holidays fast-approaching, we are expecting around 3.5 - 4.0 million units sold-through by the year end. Of the 1.4 million, 52% of sales were on Xbox 360, 43% on PS3 and the remainder on PC. The Americas accounted for nearly 2/3 of sales (exaggerated slightly by the staggered release dates).

How did Medal of Honor perform in relation to the competition? Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (also from Electronic Arts) had an almost identical opening week earlier in the year while the last Call of Duty title (Modern Warfare 2) sold around 8.5 million copies in week one (or over 6 times as many copies).

Edit:

EA has confirmed 1.5m units week one - over the same period of time as our figures.

Stay tuned to VGChartz for the latest Medal of Honor sales updates.

Considering only about 13% of all PSWii60 games have cracked 1 million in lifetime sales (mostly thanks to Wii's terrible conversion rate having almost 1000 games but less than 100 over 1 million) I think any game that cracks 1 million on week 1 regardless of the number of platforms its on has sold well.

These are really impressive numbers I think. Defiantly will be a Medal of Honor 2, which will mean they will take everything that wasn't so great in this and improve greatly. I see the next MoH being a very serious competitor in the FPS market (I'm not going to say with CoD because I'm not entirely sure the "Call of Duty" name will still be around...however it might still be an Activision FPS.

PC 5%? That's pathetic

Making a complete rip-off of a game that inst released yet and making at least 2 million copies out of it is a great investement, especially considering EA didnt waste as much money as activision did

Not too shabby for a 1st week. Then again, he come all the doomsayers saying "it did not sell 5-10 million LAWL! Black Ops will beat it!" I am sure EA is just fine with these week one numbers.

The Taliban controversy was so very clever. I doubt anybody would have payed any attention to this otherwise.

ZechsMerquise (on 19 October 2010)

Decent sales, but still failed to break a million on a single platform. But as MonstaMack says, it shows the state of the industry when a medicore FPS can do numbers like this. Sad to see numbers like this for a game of this quality when so many genuinely good titles get lost in the rush and have comparatively poor showings.

MonstaMack (on 19 October 2010)

Not bad. Just shows if you hype a FPS even with a medicore beta and lackluster reviews you can still sell extremely well.

hoping a Medal of Honor located in the future

Black Fist (on 18 October 2010)

It sold way more than i was expecting. It will get it's ass kicked by CoD: Black Ops, but at least this numbers show that there will be a MoH II (which was already expected, even if it failed)

GameBoss01 (on 18 October 2010)

JPH85, Black Ops will sell more than 6 million because it will release on PS3, 360, PC, DS, and Wii. With approximately 5 Million on 360 and 3.90 Million on PS3. 1.7 million on PC and 200,000 on Wii and DS With final week 1 one sales in 10,600,000 across all platforms. (approximate)

pukem0n (on 18 October 2010)

lets hope they improve the quality of its sequel with all that profit :P

Rawnchie14 (on 18 October 2010)

Considering how bad competition was for the game, the sales are good. Still didn't like it much.

haxxiy (on 18 October 2010)

Despite the reviews I have to say the new MOH is pretty good, not awesome but still good. The game is much better on the PC than on consoles. Anyways competition for Call of Duty is always good, even weak competition that is. And yeah JPH85, 6m week one seems very likely IMO.

JPH85 (on 18 October 2010)

Black Ops will blow it away. I bet BO will sell 6 million week 1.

AFFLICTION (on 18 October 2010)

Not bad i suppose
