A Time-Lapse Video of the Entire Game Design Process
by VGChartz Staff, posted on 25 August 2010 / 1,212 ViewsLudum Dare 18, as in the 18th Ludum Dare event, ended yesterday. It's an event where indie game designers have 48 hours to make an entire game from scratch by themselves, after voting on the event's theme. This time the theme was "enemies as weapons." Now all the entries are in and they have two weeks to vote on their favorites.
One of the users, who goes by the name of Notch, happened to record his entire two day program-a-thon, sped it up to 6 minutes and 38 seconds, and set it to some of his own original music. So if you've always wanted to watch a game designer at work, but couldn't afford a trip to one of those game design zoos where you watch them program in their glass boxes, and don't have the time to watch somebody sit at a computer for days or years at a time, this video is for you:
The finished game, Metagun, has you shoot enemies out of a gun, who then shoot back at you. It sounds crazy, and yeah, it is. It's available to play right here.
