Here we see data representing the global sales through to consumers, and change in sales performance, of the three home consoles over comparable periods for 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.  Also shown is the market share for each of the consoles over the same periods.

yoy 03.04.10

The Wii has a good week and is up year on year by a very healthy 69,000 units or 30.0%.   This solid performance also helps the Wii build on its performance to show that it is up year on year - year to date by 2.45%.  The Wii continues to spoil the predcictions of many to post a good start to 2010.

The PS3 has another massive week and the strategy of releasing lots of big hitters in the first 3 months of the year has paid off for Sony.   Supply is now resolved and in shows in the discrete year on year increase of 84%.   The PS3 continues its fantastic start to 2010 up over 40% year on year - year to date.

The 360 is also up this again this week by a very healthy 20% in comparison to 2009.  The 360 continues its trend of improving against 2009 numbers and is now down just under 5% for the year to date.  If this continues then the 360 will join the Wii and PS3 in being up year on year - year to date by early May.

I still see all three consoles having a better 2010 than 2009.

It seems like the whole market is expanding again ! Wii seems to be recovering and we may see those 2008 mighty-Ninghty numbers again ! The Clony Station 3 is doing sooooooooooo great ! I cant believe it ! I had a huge bet it would vanish this year as the non-leader systems do in markets such as Japan and in a lesser way, the Americas. The X360 may see a huge jump after the Slim model + Price drop, lets wait for Natal to attract the interest in this system again. I can only wait for Wiis games, that's the only way Mighty Ninty can fight and i m pretty sure they wont be lazy again, sorry Ninty, but that's what competition makes for us.

PS3 should have more inventory now that Sony has been able to move things around to get more out, but if they continue to sell over 200k each week for the next few months. It will still be a strain.

Easy to see why the wii is selling more this year. It has more good Hardcore games coming out this year than in any other year of its lifetime. And about 3 of them are already out. 4 by the end of this month.

good job from everybody.nintendo is still doing great with both ds and wii. big improvement for the ps3 helped by some great new games and blu ray and also steady sales for the oldest home console, the xbox360

what is it with the ps3 selling more this year I wonder? Oh wait yea its alot cheaper than it was this time last year..

abcdario (on 09 April 2010)

Go Ninty ! You can make it and drop the PStwo out of the top in less than a year with the DS and later to third place with the Wii ! ! ! :D

YESSS!! Wii hits 70M this week! And nintendogamer, if the Wii continues to sell like it is, the system will easily sell another 20M this year. It's looking better than 2009, which, as you can see, sold about 22M.

GO GO GO PS3!

RisenTerran (on 09 April 2010)

Whats with the Wii selling more this year I wonder?

gekkokamen (on 09 April 2010)

PS3 is kicking butt(s)

Boberman (on 09 April 2010)

Gamestop and pacther said supply issues for the PS3 would last months. So I don't think its solved yet.

Gilgamesh (on 09 April 2010)

Good sales all around, hopefully PS3 get's more supply in Americas (oh and you put two periods at the end of the second paragraph, again)

Ail (on 09 April 2010)

I don't think the PS3 supply issue in the US is totally solved. My local Best Buy is starting the week end with 0 120Gb or 250Gb SLIMs in stock ( last week they had a few 250Gb)... They had 9 Wii that I could see on display and a decent 360 stock...

Looking at the 2009 sales graph this is where we're going to start seeing the truly massive YOY increases, especially for PS3. With the exception of the week after next (FFXIII demo) it's probably going to be up over 100k YOY every week. Maybe up 3 million by the end of August 21 weeks from now.

gurglesletch (on 09 April 2010)

Ps3 market share has really jumped compared to 2009 numbers.

Seece (on 09 April 2010)

Hopefully the 360 goes up YOY soon.

Demotruk (on 09 April 2010)

With Natal and a likely price cut, yeah it does look like 360 will outdo itself yet again. Looks like my expectations for Wii Q1 and Q2 will end up spot on, but it's still a "who knows" beyond that.

Nintendogamer (on 09 April 2010)

Do you think Wii will sell at least 20M this year? or maybe 21M?

Nintendogamer (on 09 April 2010)

Wii up, very good, now onto the bit 70M next week, and also great software to keep them going.
