Sony Computer Entertainment's President and CEO, Andrew House, has officially announced that Sony has formed a partnership with Hideo Kojima and his newly formed independent studio, which is retaining the Kojima Productions name.

The first game from Kojima's new studio will be console exclusive to the PlayStation 4.

You can view the announcement below:

"I'm happy to let you know that I have established my own independent studio today," said Kojima. "And I'm excited to tell you that the first title from this new studio is a collaboration with PlayStation."

"I'm thrilled to embark on creating a new franchise with PlayStation that will give you all a new and innovative gaming experience. So please stay tuned."

House added that "All game fans including myself are looking forward to it. Kojima-san, on behalf of PlayStation and together with the fans, we'd like to offer our full support on your new journey."

Konami will soon come to realise how badly they fucked up and Kojima will have then have the meanest smug face.

Glad it's console exclusive. The best games of each generation are (for the most part) exclusives. When you can focus and zero in on one system and it's architecture, the results are always better.

If you were to include Wii U, the 3DS, Vita and the mobile devices, I would agree with you but if you're just comparing it to the Xbox One, there isn't very much to compare. Xbox One and PS4 are nearly identical machines. They're both basically stripped down PC's that run on the same exact architecture. Nonetheless, I still support the game being exclusive. I think console exclusives are better for the industry as a whole since their presence encourages competition.

I guess this means exclusives on other platforms must also be better (talking all the platforms including PC).

Huge news! It will be a while before we see any game, but a significant signing for Sony to have Kojima on board. Lots of people around here were hoping/predicting this would happen.

Lovers and haters, we can all thank Konami for this. Honestly, what did everybody expect was going to happen when Kojima and Konami fell apart?

Kojima seems wise after all the BS he's been through. Use Sony to help with first game and with marketing and financial support and when that game is big hit then he can go multiplat or do whatever he wants and still have freedom and control rather then becoming a 1st party where he's being told when to jump and how high.

As it turnes out, it isnt an console exclusive game, but a PS4 first game, which in my opinion in an even better situation.Sony helps funding the game and let Kojima realises his vision, and it turn as a reward gets the game first in its console, but after 6 months to 1 year(im guessing) everyone is able to enjoy the game and helps Kojima make even more money

Cool, but it probably won't be ready for 3 - 5 years. Either way, look forward to it.

I wonder how this will affect Konami's relationship with Sony, maybe PES will become a X1 exclusive :o

  • -5
fireburn95 Luke888 (on 16 December 2015)

Why should it? Konami and Kojima's issue is between them, and Kojima has to eat. He was always going to get another job, and likely work with another publisher

One look at the sales charts will tell you that's not going to happen.

Liking the new logo and at least they stated it's console exclusive which gives a chance to a PC port. I do hope that his future works are on multiple platforms though.
