Xbox Boss: I Fully Expect PS4 Will Drop in Price in the US - News

Xbox boss Phil Spencer has told IGN that he expects Sony to drop the price of the PlayStation in the US in the near future.

"I fully expect they [PlayStation] will drop price," said Spencer. "When I think about the playbook they've used in the past, we feel good about the plans we have in place going forward in the holiday. If history tells, then we'll see a price drop from them coming."

"It's great for gamers when price competition happens," added Spencer. "We saw that last holiday, and we saw crazy sales numbers on all of the consoles."

Sony has dropped the price of the PlayStation 4 in Japan and in several Asian countries over the course of the last week.

Even Spencer cares more about PS than Xbox. Embrace the PS overlords

Phil Spencer goes out to eat at tgi friday's.

Media writes up an article on what he thought about the menu.

Do we really need an article for everything that comes out of this guy's mouth? Seriously?

It's getting a little weird at this point gotta say.

I guess because of how much he's busted his ass trying to repair the image of Xbox after Mattrick fucked it up, people are trying to treat him like some sort of messiah. Honestly, I think he's nothing more than a PR stint. MS saw how much people loved Shuhei, so they hired on this guy as their sort of own Shuhei. Only difference is, Shuhei actually has a history with PS, while Spencer just kind of popped up out of nowhere.

Why would he predict that? Thats not going to help his cause in any way.

You don't have to predict only things that help. In fact, people make a good living predicting bad things will happen.

it does help his cause, to make potential buyers of the ps4 not buy the system and wait for the price drop he is predicting... it's perfectly helping his cause and with no money spent.

Well, that's if his cause is what you expect it to be. But maybe... you're wrong... maybe we all have been fooled...

Literally an article can be made out of every single line Phil Piercer says apparently.

I actually kind of want to know what he has for breakfast every morning. Not exclusively either. I wonder what balanced breakfast makes Reggie's body ready every morning.

Does this guy talk more about PS4 than Xbox One or is it me?

  • +4

I think he secretly wishes he worked for Sony so he could be on the winning team. He sure does talk a lot about them lately that's for sure.

Kinda shitty tactic really, he is trying to make people second guess buying a ps4 right now by predicting a price cut for his rivals system. Obviously just done to add doubt to peoples minds about if they buy the system today will they be missing out on the savings after his predicted price cut.

Its not his fault. The media wants to know more about the PS4.

Either way, this is like having an interview with Cat Zingano and start asking her about Ronda Rousey. Who the hell is Cat Zingano you may ask? That's exactly my point.

lol, whatever it takes to maybe discourage people from buying a PS4 - hey guys, don't buy a PS4 now, wait for the price drop :)

Seems unprofessional to me. He is not even a part of Sony yet he's basically entertaining questions that is not related business wise to his product.

Weird shot to fire. Once the PS4 officially drops price in the US, the XB1 is completely screwed lol

They'll do another drop. They can go for a record of after 24 months being half the original price!

throwing mud... is not going to help his popularity.

"we saw crazy sales numbers on all of the consoles." Did we? Unless he means crazily ordinary for Wii U is this yet another case of MS basically saying Nintendo is irrelevant (Handhelds not included as MS does not operate in that space)? Anyway, he doesn't explicitly say they price will drop this year in the USA. Which basically means he's made a prediction that is guaranteed to come true because it is vague enough that whenever Sony decides to drop the price which 100% always happens at some point, he will be proven right.

Can someone superimpose Spencer's face over Ned Stark with the tagline "Brace yourselves: Price drops are coming"?
