CD Projekt RED Might Bring Mods to Console Versions of The Witcher 3 - News

by Jared Katz , posted on 16 August 2015 / 3,084 Views

This past week CD Projekt RED released modding tools for its hit action RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt to the PC community.

When asked about the possibility of mods coming to the console versions of the game by GameSpot, CD Projekt RED replied by saying:

“It’s really important for us not to partition The Witcher community and allow access to mods to console gamers, too. We’re considering various approaches to solve this and started initial talks with first-parties about this. We can’t make any hard promises yet, but you can be sure that we’re looking into it."

While there's no guarantee that either console version of the game will receive mod support, it's nonetheless encouraging to hear that the developer is in talks with the console manufacturers about the possibility.

Those who own the PC version of the game can download the mod kit here.

Don't see why they wouldn't. I mean that's the easiest way to keep a single player game alive.

It obviously depends on licensing rules imposed by console manufacturers. While official expansions and mods SOLD by the game devs and publishers can easily fall into normal licensing deals, for fan made mods, and also for bonus 1st party expansion and mods, that PC users receive for free, a deal must be made with console manufacturers to be able to give them for free and royalty-free on consoles too, unles the publisher accepts to lose money on them. So if a manufacturer is greedy, its users will get the shaft again.

I have been LOVING the game... But I agree 100% and then some with your comment... I have never been so frustrated, at times in a feeling of despair because I so badly want to play and enjoy this amazing game (that I also paid $60 for) and it just won't progress... A glitched quest where you can't advance.. I've had to turn off the game for weeks waiting for a patch to fix the bugged quest.. It has taken me since launch to get about 70% through the game completion and I have tried to play as much as I can... but the game is unplayabe often times and it breaks my heart. One of my favorite RPGs of all time. Behind KOTOR for me. except all the bugs and glitches and frustration have really killed it for me at the same time =/ I'm torn.
