Sony: First-Party Lineup is a Little Sparse This Year

Sony: First-Party Lineup is a Little Sparse This Year - News

Sony Computer Entertainment's president and global CEO Andrew House has admitted that the first-party lineup of games for the PlayStation 4 this year is a little lacking.

"We are working very hard to continue very strong support from third-party pubs and devs," said House. "Our first-party lineup is a little sparse this year, so I think this places even greater emphasis on getting good third-party support."

House added the following:

"I will admit that these are, in the current publishing landscape, few and far between, but we were able to announce a full exclusive around a franchise like Street Fighter so that Street Fighter 5 is a complete exclusive for PlayStation 4. Although given publishing dynamics and development costs, those are increasingly difficult to secure.

I would characterize 2015 as the beginning of a harvest period for the PlayStation 4 platform. The beginning of a harvest period. That being said, we are also undertaking to invest in the future, and 2015 will also be a year of investment."

Thanks GamesIndustry.

I am happy he admits it BUT I dont like how he says getting more 3rd party games counters it.

Maybe saving up for next year. The 3rd parties will fill the gaps anyway.

Hopefully X1 will have more exclusives (1st/3rd party) announced at E3.

Not a good thing when Sony themselves comes out and says it. But, I'm sure they will battle with Price Cuts this year and the few big holiday releases they do have scheduled. Will def. still be a successful holiday season... Xbox One will probably come out on top in NA with Sony still on top in the rest of the world...

To be honest I expected this to happen because PS3 had the same thing in its cycle. So it was pretty predictable.

Sony first party is a joke.

I think their 1st parties are adapting their engines for a slow start, but then we will see more games the next years when they get the full experience of working with the hardware.

The Order 1886, MLB The Show, Bloodborne, Helldivers, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Until Dawn, Persona 5, No Man’s Sky, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Let it Die, Rime. Almost everything is from third party. If all Sony's first party studios are working on at least 1 game each, the PS4's future looks very promising

Persona 5 is also coming to PS3 and Ultra Street Fighter 4 is a port of the PS3 version. But still, PS4 is just full of 3rd party games which some of them are exclusives, and low amount of 1st party games.

You don't understand what first and third party means. If Sony owns the franchise it is first party.
