[UPDATE II] Silent Hills is Cancelled, PT Removed from PlayStation Store - News

by Brent Galietti , posted on 27 April 2015 / 12,129 Views

UPDATE II: Konami has released a statement to Kotaku confirming that Silent Hills is cancelled - "the embryonic ‘Silent Hills’ project developed with Guillermo del Toro and featuring the likeness of Norman Reedus will not be continued".

UPDATE: An anonymous source has told IGN that Guillermo del Toro's comments were in regards to collaborating with Hideo Kojima, not about the cancellation of Silent Hills. "You'll have to go after Konami for those answers", the source told IGN.

ORIGINAL STORY: The rift between famous developer Hideo Kojima and Metal Gear Solid publisher Konami was a big story when it was first reported and the fallout continues to claim victims.

Konami has announced that P.T., the playable teaser for the Kojima and Guillermo del Toro-led Silent Hills, will be removed from the PlayStation Network Store on April 29th. Such an ominous announcement led to fear that Silent Hills would be cancelled and del Toro has confirmed the worst: Silent Hills is indeed no more.

Good night, sweet terrifying prince.

"It's not gonna happen and that breaks my greasy heart," del Toro lamented at the San Francisco Film Fest. This news will no doubt break thousands of more hearts across the world.

P.T. was met with near-unanimous praise from critics and gamers alike as the scariest survival horror experience in years, and the hype for Silent Hills was at a fever pitch. Sadly we will never get to see Kojima's and del Toro's dream realized.

That sucks, and I was really looking forward to Silent Hills, moreso than MGS V.

Looks like konami will kidnap MGS and SH like activision did with Crash.

Go to Sony, they will make it happen.

Alright then, who is already predicting when Konami will go down? I´ll bet they´ll fall after the year 2020. Kojima was the only one keeping them alive and now Silent Hills is also canceled? Fuck you Konami, fuck you!

As a game company, maybe, but as a corporation, no. They're pretty huge and well-known in Japan, and video games are a small portion of their business.

Hopefully Kojima creates a spiritual successor to PT. That Demo was one of the best games of last year.

He should ask Nintendo. Nintendo already saved many niche games like Bayonetta 2, Devils Third or Fatal Frame.

Why would he ask Nintendo? They could easily ask Sony for it but since Konami is a prick they decided to just cancel it instead of saving it. Guillermo and Kojima has no right to P.t. nor Silent Hills as it is owned by Konami so if Guillermo doesn't want to make ot without Kojima then might as well cancel it.

And put it on some ancient console with crap graphics? A big point of it was the photo-realism, not the shiney cartoon textures Nintendo is known for. That being said if Nintendo wanted to walk on the wild side and become relevant again, picking up this series would be a great start.

Ps4tw, ancient console with crap graphics? Why must you try to make anyone feel bad with such comments? Xenoblade CX is hardly cartoony or crap graphics. And a Wii U is hardly ancient. What do you get out of such silly comments?

Konami will not fail Japanese 3rd party publishers are a lot bigger than just there game departments. Exit console/pc game publishing/development yeah that's been obvious for awhile.

Konami reserves the MGS rights, not the inventor/father of MGS.
And maybe !! the Fox Engine of Hideo Kojima! This is really a crime.
Its very sad. No wonder why so many people leave Konami (by the end of the year. i hate you now, konami!

This really stinks for Silent Hill fans. And I didn't realize how "in-the-hole" Konami was before this. Dang.

Hopefully Kojima and Del Toro can make the game they want just without Konami and under another name.

Konami is being stupid and petty its not like they have that much franchises in the first place. Last Castlevania flopped and they arent even doing those faux-SOTN games anymore. This really is the MGS company now.

Can we make #boycottkonami a thing now?

  • -2
Teeqoz Azuren (on 26 April 2015)

We're not gonna have to make #boycottkonami a thing because after MGS V releases they won't have any games people would consider purchasing regardless.

I was considering getting a PS4 to play this game, but I guess that is no longer a consideration.
