Capcom: Super Street Fighter IV 3DS Sales Top 1.2 Million Units - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 24 December 2014 / 8,178 Views

Super Street Fighter IV 3D Edition (3DS) was a launch title for the 3DS back in 2011. The game ended up selling 1.1 million units after the launch, as gamers praised the fighting game not being dumbed down for the handheld.

Capcom has announced another 100,000 units of the game have  been sold, bringing lifetime sales to 1.2 million units.

Despite the strong sales, the next game in the franchise, Street Fighter V, is a console exclusive for the PlayStation 4. It will also be released for the PC, but that is it.

It was a shame they never considered bringing any of the updates to it. No Arcade edition and no Ultra so it's stuck on the 25 character edition of the game missing out Evil Ryu, Oni, Yang, Yun, Poison, Hugo, Rolento, Cammys clone(she's so important I forgot her name even tho she's the only ultra char I play...) and Elena. Not to mention all the actually important stuff like balance upgrades and new cancels... wish you even update that so could use things like DeeJays Super into Ultra combo.

and yet we see the exclusivity bullshit for SF 5, instead of a multiplatform release for wii u, x1 and ps4.

Sony paid for the creation of SF V... Just Like MS paid for Titan Fall and Nintendo paid for Bayonetta 2... I'd like to be mad about it but fact is it couldn't be helped... There wold be no SF V without Sony's money... Nintendo couldn't or wouldn't help because they were already invested in Bayonetta 2 and I defended Nintendo for the Bayonetta 2 thing so its only fair that I defend Sony for this.

SSFIV 3D was pretty heavily overshipped. It passed a million about 2 weeks after the worldwide release. It then took another year to cross over to 1.1m, and then another 2.5+ years to hit 1.2m.

It makes sense that they wouldn't be rushing to put out a new version on 3DS when they still had a huge number of copies of super on shelves.

This game has been ported to death, I like street fighter, but I don't Capcom to milk the franchise until the last drop. I can't wait for SFV!!!

I really don't get how "a new SF is only possible with Sony helping". It's maybe their easiest franchise to make money with (sells millions and shouldn't be too expensive to produce). If Capcom couldn't manage to give the guy responsible for this franchise enough resources I wonder how horrible their situation is. I mean, do they really tell me that they wouldn't work on SF5 otherwise?

Yeah, despite it doing very well along with the success they had on the 3DS with Monster Hunter, I never got why Capcom never released a SF4 update/upgrade or even a port of Marvel vs Capcom 3 given they obviously had the technology for porting it.

Perfectly fine with them not porting SF x Tekken, but I would have played Marvel vs Capcom 3 or a port of TvC: UAS (while they had the license, I think the 3DS was out) on the 3DS.

Until Kid Icarus: Uprising it was by far my most played 3ds game. A good port.

Yeah, I never understood why they didn't release the updates for 3DS. Honestly exclusivity is only for SFV, there is no reason why USFIV couldn't come to 3DS or even New 3DS.
