3DS Sales Top 196K in Japan, Most Hardware Sees a Boost - News

It has been a strong week of video game sales in Japan, for the week ending December 21, according to 4Gamer and translated by Gematsu. Both software and hardware sales have increased for most platforms.

Yokai Watch 2: Shinuchi (3DS) remained at the top of the charts as sales dropped to 532,724 units in its second week on sale. Pokemon Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire (3DS) remained in the second position with sales of 167,534 units.

Final Fantasy Explorers (3DS) was the top debut this week with sales of 161,197 units. Other new games include Gundam Breaker 2 (PS3) with sales of 66,532 units, while the PlayStation Vita version of the game sold 57,188 units.

Super Smash Bros. for Wii U (WiiU) is at number four this week with sales of 78,927 units. Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS (3DS) is at number five with sales of 74,226 units. Yokai Watch 2: Ganso / Honke (3DS) sold 39,223, units, Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (3DS) sold 38,681 units and Mario Kart 8 (WiiU) sold 34,331 units.

The 3DS like in recent weeks accounted for a bulk of the hardware sales. The handheld managed to sell a combined 196,351 units. The Wii U jumped to the second spot with sales of 38,314. The PlayStation Vita sold 32,834 units, while the PlayStation 4 sold 30,951. The PlayStation 3 sold 9,956 units, the Xbox One sold 893 units and the Xbox 360 sold 129 units.
