Ubisoft's Free Game for Assassin's Creed: Unity Has a Catch, You Can No Longer Sue Ubisoft - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 23 December 2014 / 8,120 Views

Ubisoft has offered a free game to owners of Assassin's Creed: Unity, due to all the issues that have occurred with the game. However, Joystiq has spotted an issue with downloading the game.

When users go to download the game they must agree to a document. The document removes the possibility of suing Ubisoft by saying "irrevocably and unconditionally release, waive, and forever discharge and covenant not to sue Ubisoft Entertainment."

Anyone who agrees to the document can no longer sue Ubisoft over any issue with Assassin's Creed: Unity.

Like if any gamer had the money/time/knowledge to sue a big multinational company.

Also, Valve has this on their User Agreement for Steam since some time ago. But then again, who would want to sue Valve and Lord Gaben.

Well that's pretty scummy of them after the constant fuck ups they've been doing.

Not really. They're blocking this because the only lawsuit you could hope to file against them is a class action lawsuit, and really those aren't benefitting anyone other than the lawfirms. It's a complete scam on the part of the legal system, in the end, all the plaintiffs get something like a 10 cent cheque in the mail, the defendant/ubisoft/valve would lose a tonne of money and the only one profitting would be the lawfirm.

Ubisoft figuring there's going to be a class-action suit or something?

I´m not sure what to think of this. I don´t see many gamers that would have the money to sue a big company like Ubisoft. I kinda think that it´s a scummy move from them, but then again, you are given a free game as an apology for their AWFUL release of Assassin´s Creed Unity.

Well if you accept the compensation by downloading a free game then you shouldn't be allowed to sue them. By downloading it you're accepting there apology and the matter is settled.
