Nintendo has spoken with investors about the launch of Animal Crossing: New Leaf in the US. The game has been a huge success by setting a digital sales record in the eShop and increased 3DS sales by 4 times when compared to the previous week.
"Nintendo saying Animal Crossing boosted US 3DS sales by 4x versus prior week and set digital sales record in eShop," Tweeted David Gibson.
Animal Crossing: New Leaf launched on June 9 in the US. The 3DS has been averaging 40,000 units sold a week in the US, according to VGChartz. That would put sales over 160,000 units for the week.

Add in EU's boost (also releasing this week), and 3DS will have quite a big jump. 3DS only sold 141k WW last year, this year it could outsell it 2:1. 3DS is only 250k behind YoY, if sales hold strong for just 2 weeks, 3DS will be up YoY again, and since 3DS had a weak fall last year, and Pokemon this year, we should expect 3DS to grow.
Some people laughed at me when I said Animal Crossing was a system seller. It might not be so much for home consoles but it definitely is for hand helds!
omg... for real? i havent got it yet.... but i will digital too....

I was dumb-founded when I read this in Danne's thread. Quite a pleasant surprise, really! I wonder how long the "above 100k" figure will last?
AC is one of the few reasons why I'll be buying a used 3DS.

So with the other countries, I'm guessing more then 300K a week in global sales with no Pokémon until October.
Now for Man of Steel 3D IMAX to shutter box office records fingers cross
Uhh... are you sure it isn't Japan? I'm pretty sure it hasn't come out in the US yet.
Animal Crossing came out in the US last Sunday (Jun 9th)
If it came out 3 days ago, there hasn't been enough time to see what impact it will have in US. It's not even a full week out if it was released 3 days ago
What very Animal Crossing-ish game have I been playing for the last three days, then? o.O
