Top 10 in Sales - Electronic Arts Games

Each week we will be taking a look at the top 10 selling games in a particular genre, platform, most recent month, even sprinkling in the top 10 selling games from a past year. All sales specified will be worldwide, unless stated otherwise.
In the last four weeks we have taken a look at some of the biggest publishers in gaming, three of which are first party, and the other was first party a little over 10 years ago. This week we will be taking a look at the biggest third party publisher, Electronic Arts, including games that were bundled. However this list does not include EA Sports, which will be looked at in next week’s Top 10. If there is a particular top 10 you want to see leave a comment and it may be featured in a future top 10.

Looking at the top 10 bestselling games published by Electronic Arts, six of the games are for the PlayStation 2, two are for the PC and the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 have one a piece. Three of the PlayStation 2 games are for the Need for Speed franchise which sold a combined 18.47 million units or 30.1 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two PC games are for the Sims franchise, and the game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, Battlefield 3, is the only game in the top 10 to be released in the current generation.
The top 10 games sold a combined 61.31 million units. The six PlayStation 2 games sold a combined 35.1 million units, or 57.3 percent of the total games sold in the top 10. The two PC games sold a combined 14.98 million units or 24.4 percent. The Xbox 360 game is 9.6 percent of the total and the PlayStation game is 8.7 percent.

Taking a look at the top 10 bestselling games published by Electronic Arts, the original The Sims is the bestselling EA game on a single platform, by outselling the second bestselling game by four million units. Seven of the top 10 games sold more than five million units and as a note the top 62 games sold more than two million units.
As a side note for those who are interested here are the sales for the Battlefield franchise. The franchise has sold a total of 23.74 million units, with Battlefield 3 selling the most with combined sales of 13.18 million units. Battlefield 2: Modern Combat sold a combined 1.37 million units. Battlefield: Bad Company sold a combined 2.58 million units and Bad Company 2 sold a combined 6.54 million units.
