Notice that DS is dropping in both hardware and software? This is because not only was DS replaced with the 3DS in Japan at this time (and people considering a DS would likely wait and think about a 3DS instead now), but also because DS was still receiving abundant software. Pokemon Black/White was still relatively fresh in Japan, and people were still buying games from fall 2010. The difference will likely even out a bit over the next month now that PSP sales are likely to crash as well with PSV out globally, but then rise again in April as the DS had Pokemon Black/White release in April of last year, which gave a large boost to software and a modest hardware boosts.---------------------------------------------- Expect DS and PSP sales to be similar until Pokemon Black/White 2 releases, and this will correspond to a larger % drop on the DS then PSP.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I would love to give you PS2 data, but.....I can't now that VGC no longer supplies the data (I assume it's because they can't track it well, when PS2 was removed VGC had it at 145 million sales and with the system only selling a couple million a year, it somehow jumped in their totals to 152 million.....

Oh Market Share!
2011 7th Gen only - DS 62.3%, PSP 37.7%----------------------------------------
2012 7th Gen only - DS 48.2%, PSP 51.8%---------------------------------------

2011 Total Handheld - DS 55%, PSP 33.2%, 3DS 11.8%
2012 Total Handheld - DS 13.2%, PSP 14.2%, 3DS 54.1%, PSV 18.5%

OP was too lazy to do software, so I will be too :P

Why would it be close? 360 is selling at a higher price then PS3, wouldn't they be the ones to benefit the most this year? However PS3 is onto a good lead for 2012, better then 2011. Likely to see the gap drop to below 2 million.
