Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D (3DS) > Opinions (49)

GaymesBoss posted 07/07/2014, 10:55
I'm surprised that this game sales are law . I never played the game , so I was quite glad to see this port . The game is very good and , even though I didn't finish it yet , already one of my favorites . I actually bought the 3DS to play this game . I think it will sell more if Nintendo stopped marketing the 3DS as a "Children's toy on the go" and market it as a mature gamers' console . I don't take my 3DS out because this game needs concentration and commitment. I'm sure that lowering the price would be a great advantage . Specially that the memory cards Nintendo uses are much cheaper than Sony's to begin with . I am sure that Konami will port more of their games to the 3DS . This game was profitable 10 years ago , so any extra money would not hurt , I am sure ....

I knew what it was supposed to be, thats why i was so dissapointed (and many others) were by the end result. As for your pricing, that might be true where you're at, but in the US the game dropped very quickly and has been selling for half off before the holidays. Hell it reached half off befroe HDVita got its first price cut. As for making profit , maybe. They dropped the price kinda fast though so maybe.

it was being sold at 40€ in GAME stores until last month
now is 10€, O:

To finish this up ill say, this game was supposed to be a remaster from what they showed on early demos, since 3DS wasnt selling well they decided to go for the cheap, rushed, straight port which turned into this mediocre sales, which are enough to make a little profit by the way...

well acdcste was right, holidays did crap and the game has bee discounted for a while so i dont know where dieappledie is getting his sales sold at full price from. I gotta say, what made one think this game would sell a mil? It is port of a game that was released THREE times already between THREE different platforms, you would have to have been on coke to think it would sell that much...now had Konami not have been cowards and went with the full on remake then the game woudl have done better

acdcste posted 05/12/2012, 06:12
The holidays will not give any bump to the sales. At best it gets to 300k lifetime and thats being generous. I really thought this would be a million seller because of the metal gear franchise how wrong i was!

Nah the game is good, but the survival gimmick doesnt work, and the gameplay is clunky, the cutscenes are superb though...
200k sales for this game at full price is more than enough, its a port to a more capable hardware and the holidays are yet to come

even though the controls are a bit unorthodox, i generally got used to them after the first couple hours of play. only a couple times when i had to aim precisely did i have trouble, but otherwise i thoroughly enjoyed this port. it's a pretty solid remake.

can't really say much about the sales of this game and then praise the Vitas 3 games in one package for the same money which sold over a half a million less copies :S can't understand that logic at all.

rolax man, it looks like this game has a very strong fanbase
ive beaten the game on the 3DS and i have to say its a pretty average game, the best thing is the 3D effect and the photocammo feature, exclusive to 3DS
tbh i enjoyed more Splinter cell 3D

@dieappledie, just cause you dont care doesnt mean some dont, thats stupid and childish, fact is it makes the game look uglier than it should be. I doubt you played the Vita version and are just trolling, doesnt take advantage?? ITs MGS3 the game was beastly when it first came out it doesnt need to take advantage and it actually does have some touch features so we know you are straight lying. and even if it were true nothing done on the this version makes up for the fact that with the vita you are getting 3 other whole games

Ganoncrotch posted 16/09/2012, 03:50
@dieappledie "could care less" that means that you care an amount that would allow you to care less, if you cared an awful lot about something like say... you care about your family it would be possible to say you care less about them, the phrase is couldn't care less, as in you care so little it would be impossible to care less.
I know that doesn't have much to do with what you said :D I agree entirely that the camera camo thing was a cool edition works good if you take a dark pick of some camo cloths if you got any looks weird and yeah this was a remake and not a port, main thing the vita has going for it is in place of the extra work gone into this it has mgs2 which is a beastly good game.

the 3D and camera cammo are amazing aditions, loved them, i could care less about if textures have a lil bit more or less detail...lol, thats stupid and childish
the Vita version is way worst, doesnt take advantage of the system at all, its just a port in semi HD
this is partly remade, for better

Ganoncrotch posted 10/08/2012, 01:31
Twin snakes was IMO the best one of the series, if anything for those over the top cut scenes, there is nothing quite like watching snake run up along a trail of missiles coming from the helicopter before doing a bicycle kick into the air and firing his own rocket right in the cockpit.... just amazing to see and still didn't damage the flawless gameplay of mgs from the psone.

first 10 mins of that is dealing with the Hind D absolutely amazing retelling of the first game from the psone if anyones not seen this GC remake there is a good 4 hours to watch on youtube :D

I think whats hurting this is the price, it should have NEVER ever retailed for 40, not when you have collections released that cost the same or less and another one that was coming down the pipe, its almost insulting. I wish they would have stuck with their original plan of just doing a straight up remake of the game ala Twin Snakes, that didnt happen and the hype just died, when it was found out it was gonna be a straight port.

Its not that i dont like the game, its MGS3, its just that IMHO this is not the best version you can get, that honor goes to subsistence for PS2, that mofo was packed to the brink with extra features, the original MSX games, more Snake vs Monkey, MGS4 teaser, more silly cutscences than the orignal, you could play all cutscences back to back, 3d camera was added, more camo, a full on online mode and it retailed for less. the 3ds one added 3d, more camo and the ability to crouch, i like the ability to crouch. But there were some things that i did not like, i hated using the gyro to balance on trees, etc. why do devs think that is fun. Its an ok version of a great game.

As for Twin Snakes, i love it, i still have that game. I dont know why some people hate it, i could care less about the matrixesqe cutscences, freaking skip em. I hate people complaining about stuff like that

I did agree with you that value for money that psvita game is absolutely class, and as my comment I made on that in the vita portion of vgchartz when I got it about a month ago says I utterly think anyone buying a vita who had a ps2 will get that game with it.

As for you not liking this one, not gonna hold a gun to your head and say to like it, it's completely your opinion what you like and what you don't I personally think the main thing that'll hurt this games figures is the install base for the 3ds and how this game is 15s+ .... don't really match up!

But just hope they make their money back from it so we could see some other remakes maybe.

btw oniyide what did you think of the GC remake of the first MGS game? the twin snakes if you've ever tried that version. would like to know what you thought of the added over the top matrixesque cutscenes in that remake.

I have played the game, i didnt care for it, what more do you want? You're talking to a guy who already bought the game TWICE, day 1 for each, I'm sorry buy Konami going to have to do a bit more than just adding 3D(which I dont really care for) some camo(which half of them are useless). The game looks worst than any other version of the game I played, (that includes the Vita version) the details on Snakes clothes are terrible, they could have done way better than that. And they have the audacity to charge 40 bucks?? Hey man you think thats a good deal?? Go for it, most of us dont and the numbers show that. I'll stick to Substincence for PS2 which has way more content anyway and if I really want to play it on the go I'll get the VIta version which is compatible with the PS3 version.
And FYI i like those two classic games, so thats def a bonus for me. Its not nostalgia I still play them every now and then.

@Oniyide
Played, would definitely recommend you take a look at it, while it is a great deal having both 2 and 3 on the one game, they are legit odd looking ports of the ps2 games, whereas this is a remake of just mgs3 there is a fair bit more work gone into the remake of this one game, I don't really get what you mean by "the 3d doesn't help" I actually thought the 3d effect when lil bugs n stuff go past the camera while you duck into the bushes was fairly immersive in this game. but I agree content wise the vita game is a far better deal given that mgs2 was 2nd only to Twin Snakes of all the mgs games I've played.

As for having the msx games on the cart :< that is not a bonus. :D Not matter how many pairs of nostalgia goggles you put on those play really badly, well they did when they were included with MGS3 on the ps2 I've not actually bothered to click into them in the HD collection yet on the vita but can't imagine they changed anything with them? it is just direct ports afaik?

@ganoncrotch Did you actually play the PSV version?? Or did you just watch some low quality videos on the internet? first off, you're actually getting four games in that version, so right off the bat you're wrong (the original MSX games come with it). THe textures in MSG3D are worst than any other version of the game and the 3d doesnt help. The Vita version has touch features, but they dont add anything to either one IMHO. Either way your getting four games versus one for the same price, only a crazy person can argue value in this case

@oniyide
Have you seen the psv port of this game in the "hd" collection? it is really really washed out in terms of textures and model detail and the port of 2 that comes in that collection is fairly horrible compared to the original ps2 game. I'd really advise you check it out before advising people buy it as better value, I know you are getting 2 games for the price of one, but this is a port of mgs3 with touch features and added 3d and some street pass features, the vita gets fairly watered down versions of the ps2 games 2+3

I played the demo for this and i can understand the bad sales. They didnt take full advantage of the touch screen to eliminate menu's, they are still get pulled up on the main screen and the control scheme could have been better thought out (RE:Revelations tell you how). With the HD releases so close and so much better, it was insanity to release this in the state it was released...heck they could've added peacewalker to the bundle and made it alot more appealing.

@angryaztec I meant to say Konami should have let him go ahead with the remake, thats my bad as for reading up on the franchise, please i bought every game in the series i even played one of the acids. this is doing crap compared to every other release, especially a game of this caliber. Price drop in the fall, you know what else comes in the fall, NSMB2. People arent buying this game NOW, with nothing interesting, you think they are going to look MGS' way when they could be playing a new Mario??? NO

Sorry but a game that has levelled out at 4k is not going to be selling well in years to come, not when nintendo will keep on releasing mario, zelda, donkey kong, metroid, kirby etc for the 3ds at various stages. Yeah some people will buy it but you overestimate how well this will do. At the rate its going it wont even be at 200k by the years end.

People are taking these initial numbers all wrong. They think handheld games sell the same way as on home consoles. Things work differently. And another thing, the 3DS system basically just started out and it's building a library of games. So games like MGS: Snake Eater 3D and Revelations, will ALWAYS remain as one the best games to get for that handheld for the remainder of its life cycle. Think about that. Those games will always pop-up when soneone is looking to buy a great game on the 3DS. So when Snake Eater 3D gets a price drop in the fall this year, you can bet the farm that a lot of 3DS owners (old and new ones) will buy this game. And another thing, MGS is owned by KONAMI not Nintendo. That newbie who thought you would give all your "pity" money to Nintendo needs to read more on the franchise.

I expected it to do bit better, but not by much, dont know why people thought this would fly off the shelves. Only the super die hard fans would want this, most MG fans would already own a PS3 and would have just bought the collection which is just a better value, you'd be crazy to get this over that unless you felt the need to give Ninty some pity money. Had they not cheaped out and let Kojima do an actaul remake it would hae done better, hell I would have bouht that
