Tales of the Abyss (3DS) > Opinions (75)

NoirSon posted 28/11/2016, 12:21
Namco left money on the table, while a original game may have been cost prohibited. They probably could have made profit off of ports of some of the Vita or older games (like the Symphonia collection if possible) if released in the US on the 3DS.

@supernihilist: Most JRPG fans probably have either a 3DS and/or Vita, this currently is the only Tales game on the system and a fan favorite, second to maybe Symphonia or possibly 3rd thanks to Xilla. Folks are going to grab it, heck they could drop it on eShop and watch folk snatch it up.

Awesome to see this is doing so well and with pretty good legs at that. Nearing 300k in the US for a JRPG is almost unheard of these days. Abyss is a classic.

I hope Banco sees the potential for the series on the 3DS.

I would, because hideo Baba said the Japanese wanted the games on the Playstation format. I think they will just stick to the PS#. But i agree, it would make sense to make them for the 3DS. If not only more ports.

Its not that bad. Its the same system as symphonia.
Anyways... wow 500k. I wonder if namco is gonna be bringing new tales to the 3DS given they seem to not be pleased with the Vita.

To play Tales of the Abyss now, requires a bit of nostalgia because if you have played or even seen some of the more recent games it will feel/look archaic. Still, this game has done pretty well for a quick cash grab on Namco's part.

So.. no to the question. I completely disagree with youa cessment. I dont think you got the combat system, its as good as Symphonia and Vesperia. The storyline is so good a full 26 episode anime of it was made. The graphics are PS2 level, as its a port of a PS2 game. But you can easily say they are better than the ones for the upcoming Pokemon X and Y.
The reason its selling is because its good. Its considered one of the best games in the Tales of series... i just dont know how you failed to see that. Maybe you just dont enjoy the series, as its not your thing. I dont see where any of it can be considered awful though.

Im a JRPG fan, i would have loved to like this game very much, sadly, the sub par visuals, lame story and boring exploration and fighting mechanics deprived me from doing it
I think this game is awful, im surprised it has sold that much

You obviously have a creative idea of what is good and bad. For reference Baiten kaitos is a 2D background game. Abyss is fully 3D. Its not even comparable.
Arc rise fantasia is a Wii game aswell. I am to conclude you are obviously trolling.

Err... im not gonna say Baten Kaitos is bad, besides the fact its only available to the late Gamecube, but Tales of the Abyss is a really great RPG. I dont know what goes over one's head to even spout such nonsense. Besides, this port is an improvement over the original.

To bad they were so lazy and had no intention to translate it to german or french.
I mean maybe just hire 1 guy to translate and 1 guy to check and done. This would have inceased the sales alot and with almost no extra cost. (given how bad the text translation of ToS DoNW on Wii is they know how to hire only 1 guy. Abyss is the better game and they dont transalte it... Graces is even better and it doesnt even come to the west on Wii...... third party will never learn...)

I waited for the game to get discoujht

@Nem
8000 more copies to sell in USA til your right mate :D really great to see, show more devs that we like a bit of rpg goodness in the west too. get some more of these games rolling out.

Really great game btw, if you played this on the ps2 and liked it, it is a pretty perfect port but the loading times have been made so so faster you'll be far more immersed in this version no doubt about it.

+1 for europes sales here :]

Yes it goes for a minimum of 50-60 pounds for a copy of Tales of the abyss. A game that released only 3 months ago. Been that way since month one.
either way for what i basically a port to have sold half of what the original did is quite awesome. I hope Namco gets the message and brings out more Tales for the 3DS.

Its really sad how difficult this game is to get. Namco undershot the demand quite a bit. This was a new tales games for europe, of course there would be demand for it. Silly Namco... It goes on amazon for 70+ euros.

The only reason shops are saying their sold out is because they probably got one or two copies of the game in, where I work between the whole company we have like 5 copies left in the warehouse and most of the employee's nab them or reserve them before the customers get a chance to see it hit the shelves. Like I did :D

NO EFFIN WAY it sold 20k. This game is literally out of stock everywhere. I bet half those sales were FAKE SALES. Loads of Online Stores had "in stock" but a lot of them are cancelling their orders. Vgchartz tracking system is flawed. Namco have said they will ship 2nd shipment in January
