Halo Reach is the last stand story Bungie needed to tell before they left the franchise for good.

Halo: Reach is the most emotional Halo game I’ve played yet, with the player pretty much fully being aware of where this was going. This “Rogue One” or “Battle of Thermopile” of the Halo universe stands as a sobering and beautiful depiction of the doom that was to befall the super soldiers of Earth. Still, for as good as the story is this was essentially the same tried and true Halo experience as usual, save for the introduction of assassinations and one slot power-up items to rotate between. They essentially perfected what they had already built with 3.5 games, which isn’t a bad thing, but certainly isn’t an original thing to do.
