They couldn't think of a manlier color than strawberry, huh? Or maybe they're tyring to enhance God of War's cross-gender appeal.

MGS4/DS3/80GB bundle is the first smart thing Sony's done with their model merry-go-round. Kind of tells all their early adaptors to suck a dick though. Everyone who bought a $600 system should get a DS3 voucher, dammit.

  • 0
WiteoutKing (on 04 March 2008)

$499 is $499 is $499.

They need to stop focusing on bundles and start focusing on price. The game will sell just fine outside a bundle pack, it's the console that needs boosting.

  • 0
darthdevidem01 (on 02 March 2008)

@Rosol

well yes, due to the bundle...but we can minus Ps3 sales from total sales of MGS4 to get "actual" sales of MGS4 (ofcourse knowing how many of em wer 40GB n how many were 80GB's will be harD)

  • 0
Rosol (on 02 March 2008)

Now theres gunna always be a big question mark on the sales for Metal gear solid 4

  • 0
Alby_da_Wolf (on 01 March 2008)

Nice to see Sony is reacting well after some false steps (like the supply problem and the partial launch that plagued PS3's first Christmas)

Wait is the God of War not included in the PSP bundle... revolved around God of War?

  • 0
Retrasado (on 28 February 2008)

^^I'm sure them keeping wraps on Home and In-game XMB will help keep the hype levels up.

I love the art on that bundle. It's really cool. It'd be sweet if they put the art on the console itself, but I doubt they will do that.

  • 0
coasterlove (on 28 February 2008)

I think it may have been a mistake to announce this so early. Now a lot of people might wait until then to buy a PS3. So Sony might now see a sales slowdown until the bundle comes out. Generally, it seems like price drops and bundles are announced just a few weeks before they happen.

Awesome, DMeisterJ this is what you called me for!!?!!

You better get a PS3 now, bro :)

This comes with MGS4 and a 80GB and plus a DS3 controller. GET THIS ASAP!

Meanwhile I have to purchase the game and the DS3 controller, since I was a early adopter :( or :) in many ways....lol

Then I will buy a PS3. ^^

question about this site and MGS tracking, will this site keep track of MGS sales for both the Single Game itself, AND the game with the PS3 Bundle?

I hope its both, as im sure the bundle with account for a number of sales...

Just curious is all, sorry I'm not exactly sure how you track games :|

I think Sony wants it written all caps to gain more attention, but we shouldn't be kiss asses and do them that favor.

:)

  • 0
Lafiel (on 27 February 2008)

@ ElRhodeo )

because it's easier to patent them like that - for the same reason it's Blu-ray and not Blue-ray

  • 0
ElRhodeo (on 27 February 2008)

Why do the words DUALSHOCK and SIXAXIS have to be ALL CAPS? I'm sure Sony likes that, but I find it a bit SERVILE and ANNOYING.

  • 0
Ail (on 27 February 2008)

@Madkiller
I disagree that the bundle is a bad idea.
It will help move more units of MGS4 and will be a good kick back to Konami for sticking with PS3 only.
What Sony is saying to the developers out there is that if you stick exclusive with us, you will get some kick backs from us :)

  • 0
Ail (on 27 February 2008)

Almost makes me want to buy a second PS3 to have a picture of Snake on it !!!

  • 0
Magnific0 (on 27 February 2008)

^madkiller,

So people would be better off spending $400 on a 40GB PS3 (with Sixaxis and Spiderman 3) and $60 for the stand-alone game. It's still a good option if you don't care about the controller (rumble) But roughly 40 bucks? and you get the more complete PS3 with BC, double the HDD and other features. I think I'd buy this bundle even if I didn't want MGS4, that game I'm sure it'll be easy as pie to trade it for another one and I still get DualShock3. Heck, I'm thinking Sony should definitely announce a new 40gb bundle as well, it's just going to lack so much in comparison to the MGS4 one.

  • 0
libellule (on 27 February 2008)

madkiller,

1/ many people dont have bought a PS3 just because they know soon a bundle with the DS3 will appear ...
2/ DS3 is better than sixaxis, and MGS4 is a better system seller that a 1 year old game !!!!

I m not gonna argue MGS4 is a savior, I dont believe it is, but it would help without any doubts.

(except if the game is bashed by the reviewer)

  • 0
Magnific0 (on 27 February 2008)

@terran77

They are probably just going to bring back de 80gb SKU for this bundle (it's been discontinued, by the time this bundle launches there won't be any Motorstorm pack-in left) I'm sure a price cut is sure to follow since they won't make MGS4 as permanent as the Motorstorm bundle was. I'd say they'll keep 40gb SKU (probably with Dualshock 3 from summer) and MGS4 80gb bundle, priced $400 and $500, respectively. Then by october they can probably launch a new SKU (120gb with a "greatest hit" game and DS3, or something like that) for $400, and keep the 40gb SKU with DS3 for $300. It seems to me the logical next step.

  • 0
libellule (on 27 February 2008)

Sullla,

MGS4 is hardcore, I agree, but if the games get good review and is GOOD, then this bundle help a lot the PS3.
Remember a lot of people dont have bought their PS3 and even if MGS4 is hardcore, it is still quite famous and hyped all over the console gaming world.
(yes casual dont care of MGS but casual dont guy 400-500$ console)

  • 0
madkiller (on 27 February 2008)

The MGS bundle is a bad idea IMO as it will take away profits from the game itself (supposedly one of the PS3s savior games) and won't move that much more hardware since it is the same price for the same PS3, except for DS3.

  • 0
playnext3 (on 27 February 2008)

cool

  • 0
terran77 (on 27 February 2008)

Personally I think sony would be better off with just a 50 dollar price cut than this. Not that metal gear won't sell a few consoles, but a lot of it's audience probably owns a ps3 already honestly, kind of like how how halo 3 didn't alter 360 that much long term

  • 0

"The bundle is priced at $499 and contains Metal Gear Solid 4, the Metal Gear Online Starter Pack"

How does that benifit Konami giving the game away for free? Unless the up the price(which means the ps3 will be lower than 500 dollars by then)

  • 0
Sullla (on 26 February 2008)

This is definitely a bold move from Sony, bundling their biggest game of the first half of 2008 with the console. I do think this will help spur sales - but perhaps not as much as many expect. Remember, Metal Gear Solid is a VERY hardcore series that doesn't appeal to your casual consumer... and I think those are the people that Sony needs to attract the most right now. But for the serious gamers still sitting on the fence, this will be a very enticing offer indeed. About time the Dualshock controller finally shows up again too, 18 months late to the party!

I think the red PSP looks hideous (the black one is MUCH better), but the rest of you seem to like it, so what do I know?

And DMeisterJ doesn't have a PS3?! Seriously? I don't understand how someone can spend months telling everyone how great the PS3 is, without even OWNING the darn thing!

  • 0
Aj_habfan (on 26 February 2008)

Hell its an awesome deal I Paid $600.00 for my 60 gig at launch without a game!

I dont think backwards compatibility is that huge I still have a slim PS2 for that and PSone also. even thou the PS2 would handle all my needs.

Just a question does the 40 gig play psone games form PSN store?

@DM - you do know the controller is titled DUELSHOCK 3 SIXAXIS, right?

Mirson (on 26 February 2008)

That's a sweet looking PSP. I was going to buy one for God of War, so I guess I'll wait.

nice bundle for sony, they are on their way to locking up 2nd place. But I don't like MGS, so this bundle is definately not for me. What I want is LBP, dualshock 3, and the 80 gig with BC for $399. Then maybe.

DMeisterJ (on 26 February 2008)

The date that I will own a PS3: June 12, 2008. That's exactly what I've been looking for, dualshock, and MGS4, not sixaxis and Motorstorm. Glad I waited to get a PS3.

That is one sexy looking PSP.

I am surprised that Sony bundle a M-rated game for PSP.
I thought they are currently focusing on the expansion of teenager's market.
Maybe this bundle will convince some adults upgrade their fat PSP.

wenlan (on 26 February 2008)

@Chrizum
Calm down. There will be MGS4 bundle in Europe too, maybe with different spec.
120GB? European users do need a bigger HD for PlayTV.

If the PS3 was a candidate for president, this would be called flip-flopping. =)

No,no rumble, wait, ok rumble.... sure, backwards compatibility, no, wait, no backwards compatibility. :D

outlawauron (on 26 February 2008)

@ twroo

Yes. The 80 is $499.

@ Chirzum

Give him a second. Sony still has a while til it releases.

aspirin (on 26 February 2008)

^ But in Europe we never got the 80GB model :(
Our only choice is the 40GB with no BC because the 60GB is discontinued.

ssj12 (on 26 February 2008)

@Chrizum - Sony just released a new bundle in the EU.

  • 0
Magnific0 (on 26 February 2008)

@Chrizum

hey, chill man, eat a donut for christ's sake. Still too early to know if EU will get a new bundle. Who knows if you don't get this one you'll get Resistance 2 bundle there with DS3 or something.

Yakuzaice (on 26 February 2008)

Well I have been thinking about getting a PSP for a while now. I'll finally take the plunge when this bundle comes out. I probably would have bought it sooner though if this hadn't been announced, o'well, more money for games.

polishforlife (on 26 February 2008)

Im still amazed that Ps3 sells that much with price this high.

whats the release date for the red PSP? Does it come out the same day as God of War?

Chrizum (on 26 February 2008)

That 80GB MSG bundle is really a great idea. There's just one thing that irks me...

WHY the HELL is Sony ALWAYS screwing over their number one supporting region, Europe? For ages, Europe has been loyal to Sony, without Europe's support, Sony would have long gone the way of Sega, or worse. Still, they keep having this "screw Europe, they will buy our shit anyway" attitude.

THAT'S why I hate Sony, I don't hate the games, the consoles, but their fucking attitude.

  • 0
Punisher (on 26 February 2008)

But, but didn't Sony say that vibration functionality would be removed from the PlayStation 3 controller, reasoning that the vibration would interfere with the motion-sensing feature of the controller.

:p

  • 0
zackblue (on 26 February 2008)

Aww man , that psp looks amazing. I just bought mine. Oh well, I do expect a strong boost in sales for the ps3 when that MGS4 bundle comes out.

Sony should have bundled a silver 160GB ps3 with GTA 4. Increasing sales momentum, and stealing some sales from the xbox.

  • 0
TWRoO (on 26 February 2008)

@Willem. Aren't all 80GB the same? it's obviously going to have the same BC (runs on software) as the Motorstorm bundle because it's the same SKU.

That's a nice price for it, you get the game (and the online game thing) free, and a DS3 instead of six-axis too.

Also that's a really nice colour PSP, I didn't think white suited but that's even better than black.
I wouldn't want the ugly head motif on it though.

Sony's stepping it up. Again. Microsoft has seriously got to be scared now.

An article on maxconsole.net also states that the new 80 GB bundle has the same backward compatibility as the previous Motorstorm bundle.
