Gran Turismo 5 Prologue Ships 4.65 Million, GT PSP Ships 1.8 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 08 February 2010 / 4,360 Views

Polyphony Digital, the developers of Gran Turismo, has a policy that we wish every company did. At regular times, they update the shipments of each of their games, so it's easy to know how much they've shipped for each of their games.

This time, we have updated figures of Gran Turismo 5 Prologue and Gran Turismo PSP. The other games of the series are given for comparison, and shipments are as of December 2009

Title Units
Gran Turismo 10,850,000
Gran Turismo 2 9,370,000
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec 14,890,000
Gran Turismo Concept Series 1,560,000
Gran Turismo 4 “Prologue” 1,350,000
Gran Turismo 4 10,980,000
Gran Turismo 5 “Prologue” 4,650,000
Gran Turismo PSP 1,800,000
Total 55,450,000

Therefore, we can see the Prologue to Gran Turismo 5 has crossed the 4.5 million barrier, while the portable version is close to reaching 2 million

We also have a regional breakdown for each game

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue

Region
   Sales
 Japan 740,000
 North America
1,050,000
 Europe 2,750,000
 Asia 100,000

Gran Turismo PSP

Region
   Sales
 Japan  320,000
 North America
 620,000
 Europe  820,000
 Asia  40,000

Now, it's a question of how much would Gran Turismo 5 sell

No surprise, selling the possible max quantity of Prologue5 was until now the main reason not releasing the true GT5.The limit of future GT5 sells ? The sky !

The numbers for GT5 Prologue are pretty impressive, but hasn't this game always been "value priced" at $29. I see the full priced version of GT5 having a similar lifetime numbers as the PS3 version of GTA IV.

lol wow. this name has power. I'm pretty sure the fact it was recently bundled with a controller didn't hurt sales.

Guess this explains why they are taking so long to release the full GT5, i think Prologue already cleared about all of the development costs...

And GT 5 prologue is now the best selling racing sim this gen.

Do they consider psn sales as "shipped" as well? Or is this purely store-based?

iWarMachine (on 08 February 2010)

double those sales AT LEAST...i think 3 times those sales is the best bet.
