New Super Mario Bros. Wii: Official Box Art Revealed - News

by Gabriel Franco , posted on 25 September 2009 / 58,644 Views

A classic Mario adventure that everyone can enjoy – at the same time.

Developers at Nintendo have dreamed of creating a simultaneous multiplayer Super Mario Bros.™ game for decades. The Wii console finally makes that dream come true for everyone. Now players can navigate the side-scrolling worlds alone as before or invite up to three others to join them at the same time on the same level at any point in the game for competitive and cooperative multiplayer fun. With the multiplayer mode, the newest installment of the most popular video game franchise is designed to bring yet another type of family entertainment into living rooms and engage groups of friends in fast-paced Super Mario Bros. fun

  • New Super Mario Bros. Wii offers a combination of cooperation and competition. Players can pick each other up to save them from danger or toss them into it.

  • Mario, Luigi™ and two Toads are all playable characters, while many others from the Mushroom Kingdom make appearances throughout the game. Players can even ride different Yoshi™ characters and use their tongues to swallow enemies, items and even balls of fire.

  • In some areas, players use the motion abilities of the Wii Remote™ controller. The first player to reach a seesaw might make it tilt to help his or her character reach a higher platform – or might make it tilt incorrectly just to mess with other players.

  • New items include the propeller suit, which will shoot players high into the sky with just a shake of the Wii Remote, and Mario’s new ability to transform into Penguin Mario.

  • At the end of each stage during the coin battle multiplayer mode, players are ranked based on the number of coins they have collected.

Forgot to say that I like platformer, but this one seems so simple, I think I would be bored after 1-2 hours. Theres no world-map, secrets passage? Someone please explain me why it is getting so much praise. Im not trying to start a war, I would really like to understand.

I would like to be in hype too but I dont get it. Can someone after 20 yo can explain me what will be great about this game?

P.S.: I played mario a lot when I was a child (im 25) but I dont want to play this type of gameplay now. I know its multiplayer but still, what does I dont understand?

Yeah, what's with all the red :s Apart from that, looking good, standard Mario happy-go-lucky fare, but oh well.

However I still can't get over the fact that Nintendo only gave the option to play as Mario, Luigi, Toad and... uh wait, another Toad? :s Seriously, for a company that's been around for 120 years and has like over 9000 characters they could've used from the Mario universe alone, that's a terribly lazy and half-assed effort.

Red box down the bottom is fugly.

Otherwise I approve.

Mario is in the exact same pose that he is on the Super Nintendo cartridge for Super Mario World. Now that's attention to detail by Nintendo^^

Looks great, a must buy this holiday.

Too much red on the cover. A terrible choice by Nintendo. This will give it at least 2.5 million less sales.

Eh, I thought the two Toads were lame until I heard they were named Yvan and Wolley. And then I'm like "THAT'S ADORABLE."

@blunty : Yes you can. you can jump on another player to reach higher grounds, you can use yoshi to swallow another player and toss him in a hole. Oh btw, you can perform wall jumps.

I really surprised one of the playable characters isn't a female, that would probably help sell this game to girls.

@Smashchu2
Maybe because 2 princess are a much better deal.

  • 0
dark_gh0st_b0y (on 25 September 2009)

shut up, the two toads make the cover so great and special

peach and bowser are ok, but we've seen them so many times, the two colour toads and their accessories is something new

  • 0
Smashchu2 (on 25 September 2009)

Why are two toads a bad idea?

  • 0
famousringo (on 25 September 2009)

I agree, two toads is one too many. Replace a Toad with Princess Peach or Toadette or something unique.

  • 0
DOLBYdigital (on 25 September 2009)

I agree that I would've liked to see Peach in as the 4th playable character. Actually, thinking along those lines, I would love to see a game similar to this but with a SMB 2 vibe. Where each character has different characteristics to them. That would be sweet!

Many of my friends who know nothing about gaming already know this is coming out. So it seems that word of mouth and ads are starting to spread.

That cover is going to make people's eyes light up when they see it on the shelves.

  • 0
TopCat8 (on 25 September 2009)

I cannot wait for this game! It looks so fun! Classic Nintendo is awesome. First Punch-Out!! now this. Yay!

  • 0
avinash habashi (on 25 September 2009)

so they decided to keep two toads? what kind of shit is that? so much for making each character unique.

i really dont understand what the logic is behind two toads.

  • 0
wiifan75 (on 25 September 2009)

With the progression in gaming, I just don't know for sure if I can go back to this style of gaming. Looks cool but times have changed. My kid just got a DS for her birthday so I guess we'll see if she likes this and wants this. I haven't seen any adds for it though except on the internet so I wonder how it's being promoted beyond that?
