Xbox Live Arcade Top 10 - August 2009 - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 15 September 2009 / 6,644 Views

Microsoft proved this month that the Summer of Arcade lineup wasn't just a promotion, but a force to be reckoned with. The digital gaming platform brought in the highest revenue ever for a single month, beating last month's amazing cume of $14.7 million USD with $16.7 million USD. This cume represents a remarkable 49% increase from last year's 'Summer of Arcade' promotion, which was also a record breaker for Microsoft, at $11.2 million USD. Last year's major titles included favors such as 'Geometry Wars 2', 'Braid' and the blockbuster 'Castle Crashers'.

Top 10 titles certainly had their way with the charts, as they accounted for $14 million in revenue thanks to five titles that managed to gross over $1 million in revenue - a new record. According to the chart provided by FADE, the Xbox Live Arcade Market has seen a year over year increase of 30% by the end of August - mostly due to the lift in July and August.

We're continuing to see a major shift in the pricing model and feature sets employed by developers to reach success on Xbox Live Arcade. As proved in the Top 10, 4 of the top 5 titles debuted at the $15 price point, which was reserved for only an elite few games last year such as 'Castle Crashers'. However, with a trend of appreciated prices on games, we're also seeing that the content within the games offered is more robust, as evidenced by the size of top-tier titles such as Shadow Complex at over 800MB.

I hope MvC2 did what Capcom needed it to do. I'd love to see more DC era fighting games come out on XBLA. Project Justice needs to rise from its grave.

Yeah.. I was surprised how good Xplosion Man and Trials HD were. Quality games at a decent price. Trials if too addictive. I find myself playing it at 2:00am in the morning because I lost track of time. "Just one more try", I keep telling myself. Shadow Complex is a must have for anyone who love 2D/3D action platform games. It's definitely worth $20 or even $25, but is only $15.

Splosion Man is one of the best 2D plattformer ever released on any console. I know this is a bold statement, but it is true. Just try it, it is awesome. Nice humor, some challenging parts, it is fast, it has boss-fights etc.

Go and get Splosion Man today!

Wow @ Trial and Shadow Complex. Aegis Wing always top 10? I hope they have Battlefield Heroes on XBL since Battlefield 1943 is doing so well.

That's a nice chunk of change for just one month, mostly due to the fact that all the big XBLA titles this year were $15, where last year most games were $10 except for Braid and Castle Crashers.

Egghead, you can usually search by author and get the XBLA list. The last full one was May, AFAIK.

I had no idea BF 1943 sold that many copies. That is insane. I didn't know that Magic sold that many either.
Man I still haven't gotten Castle Crashers. >_>

The Live platform as a place for digital distribution is really taking off. The instant on movies should provide another healthy stream of revenue for them.
