The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is the Highest Rated Game of 2026 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted 2 days ago / 3,055 ViewsThe remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is the highest rated game of 2026 according to both Metacritic and OpenCritic.
Both aggregate sites currently have the game at an average score of 96 from critics. That is three points ahead of the next highest rated game.
The score of 96 is enough to put in the top 30 highest rated games of all-time on Metacritic at 27th and fourth on OpenCritic. It should be noted OpenCritic doesn't have reviews of older games.
The remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5.

Ocarina of Time has stood the test of time.
....for now.
I feel like this article should've waited until at least GTA 6 came out. A bit too soon.
None the less, I'm sure we all expected this game to get high ratings.
Of course it is for now. If another game surpass it, they will make another article. Why does the existence of Ocarina of Time make you so insecure about GTA?
The title just makes it sound like there's no other game to come out that has a chance to surpass it so the end result is Zelda has the highest rating for this year.
Does it not make more sense to wait for all the major games to come out first before writing an article saying its the highest rated game of the year? If that's the case then next year when say....Fable comes out in February next year, should there be an article saying its the highest rated game of 2027 already?, and then later again when God of War Laufey comes out in May? etc..
That's all I was getting at, but sounds like you're the one that's more insecure about this than me if my harmless comment triggered you to respond in that manner lol But that's ok, you can keep being insecure while I'm enjoying playing my copy of Ocarina of Time.
I don't get your point. It is just an article pointing out the score, like Vgchartz posts everyday. In no moment it comes across the idea that the idea is done. And yes, for every game that takes the spot you create a new article.
If its simply titled as it is then it explicitly implies that the game has the highest rating than every other game of 2026.
If the title continue with The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake is the Highest Rated Game of 2026..."to date", or ..."so far in 2026"...or "currently", then that implies there's room for others, but as it reads now it imply it's the definitive highest rated game of all of 2026.
Maybe wait for 2026 to be over or at least all the major games to have been released for the year before giving the title highest rated game of 2026?
Should we say Spider-Man brand new day is the highest grossing movie of 2026 or does it make more sense to wait for Avengers Doomsday to be released first?

Use to be a time back in the day when innovation, or lack thereof, was heavily weighted by reviewers. I guess with the way things are now (remake/clone city), that's not the case anymore.
Zelda games heve never not beeen reviewed on a curve. That was obvious with Skyward Sword reviews and only becames more obvious when you go back and read them now.
I just found out it doesn't have Master Quest, like what?
A real bummer. It seem to have changes that pretty much only makes the game easier to complete. Will skip.
Likely to be added as a DLC... free or paid
either way its disappointing its not on cart day one
Still one of the best games ever made 28 years later, and the remake itself is S-tier and does the original masterpiece justice
Tied with Breath of the Wild. Insanity!
its tied with TotK at a 96
BotW is a 97 on Metacritic
It was tied with BotW on OpenCritic. It has since dropped to 95, tying with TotK. Regardless the game is in good company it seems lol.
Current developers out there should be ashamed.
must-play
This game is amazing, Nintendo was in God mode making this.
I'm moderately surprised, if only because I'd expect some reviewers to get on its case about being "Just an N64 remaster."
if delivered tomorrow i will play tomorrow.
