Sony is Making 'Solid Progress' on PlayStation 6 Development - News
by William D'Angelo , posted 2 hours ago / 454 ViewsSony CFO Lin Tao during Sony's earnings call stated they are making "solid progress" on the development of the next PlayStation console.
"From next fiscal year onward, there will be investment in the new platform," said Tao (via VideoGamesChronicle). "For future growth, we have to attach great importance to a new platform and make the necessary investments for that. We have to support the soundness of our platform and think about how rationally we can invest in that platform. We will announce that at an appropriate time in the future."
Tao did say PlayStation 5 sales declining, which is expected given it has been on the market nearly six years.
"Although new PS5 unit sales are gradually declining as expected at this stage of the console life cycle, the PlayStation platform continues to expand and grow in a stable manner," said Tao.
Earlier this year Sony CEO Hiroko Totoki stated PlayStation hasn't decided on a release date yet for the PS6.

A good chance the PS5 will have the longest time on the market out of all PS consoles. Not many people will be buying a PS6, so what choice does Sony have?
Solid progress is so vague. It could come out in 2030, and it would still be true that they are making solid progress right now.
I do wonder if their plans have diverted over the last few years. Obviously each PS has more than just a power increase, new disc formats to interactivity.
Yet AI buying up much needed parts has got to have shifted ambitions. Reduce costs by making PS6 more affordable and less power hungry (and yes, digital only). Game graphics are moving to a point of diminishing returns after all, so why try to make bigger and better games when it's better to get people buying it, getting them through the door and this will be done by not only making it affordable but appealing by their usual interactivity thing.
We do know of a rumoured hand held, right? If it's a hybrid console, a Portal built in, that's more than likely the way to do it.
I think its to late for anything to have changed is the issue. Apparently they start building these consoles as soon as they release the current models. My guess is they release end of 2027 as planned and just expect slow adoption until the eventual AI bubble pops or demands are eventually meet. Prices are higher but they cant stay that way forever.
