Konami is Undecided on Future of More Metal Gear Remakes, MGS4 Remake Would be a 'Real Challenge' - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 December 2025 / 3,293 ViewsMetal Gear Solid series producer Noriaki Okamura in an interview with Real Sound stated Konami is unsure on whether it will develop more remakes in the franchise following the release of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater.
"Right now, we’re still in the stage of thinking about what to make next," said Okamura (via VideoGamesChronicle). "Since Metal Gear has given us a chance to reach a new audience, I’d like to keep building on that momentum. That said, the actual content of what we’ll make is still undecided. It could be another remake, or we might take on something entirely new.
"The Metal Gear series is practically a history of video games in itself—ranging from pixel art to film-like presentation—so the best way to remake or reinterpret each title differs greatly.
"We have no intention of simply applying the same methodology we used for MGS Delta to every game. We want to determine the most suitable approach for each game.

"Many of the original staff had left, and the team had been restructured, so we had to gather new people to finally get Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater made. As a team, we’re confident that we managed to preserve the appeal of the past titles while achieving a level of quality that modern players can enjoy. At the moment, we’re exploring concrete plans for what comes next."
He added that remaking Metal Gear Solid 4 "would be a real challenge."
"The hardware at that time required some very unusual designs to get 3D performance out of the technology available, and MGS4’s code ended up being quite unconventional as well… Bringing it over today seems like it would be a real challenge," said Okamura.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater launched for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam on August 28.

4 would also be a poor choice. But the fact that they say it's hard to "remake" because of the code shows they're basicly thinking with remaster logic. Full remakes of 1 then 2 would be the way to go, also chronologically (not counting V obviously)
MGS4 is the only big title in the series still stuck on one platform. Would love to see it out of PS3 jail.
Completely agree, the PS3 is a graveyard of exclusives lost in time. But I think the way to go would be a port, or max a remaster. The game doesn't need all the time and effort a remake would require.
It sounds like it'll cost more time and effort to port or remaster, than it would to just rebuild it from the ground up.
You say that as if building it from the ground up would be easy. I very strongly doubt it's easier than remastering it, but either way both would be a ton of work.
Didn't say it would be easy. But you have a developer at Konami saying how difficult the original source code is. Sometimes it's easier to test down and rebuild than it is to get something already built to work somewhere else.
I don“t know if thats the case; they said its a technical challenge, not so much that is a financial impossibility. Rebuilding it from the ground up would mean almost current game development costs and budgets. But, that would also mean much better chances of better sales than a simple port.
Remake Ghost Babel. That would be cool.
Remake metal gear 1/2 from the ground up and be ambitious,
Phantom pain is next in line after mgs3 Delta so you can remaster that for next gen for the time being
Peace walker and portable ops can be remastered too to "complete the story" in order
Mgsolid 1/2 has to be a remake from the ground up
And leave mgs4 for last chronologically
And then get more ambitious with revengeance lol
Remake them all except MGS5. Ditch UE5 and use FOX engine
The Fox Engine wouldn't be any guarantee of better results - they used it to make Metal Gear Survive, which was a visual and performance downgrade from MGS5.
