Xbox One (Oct 2018): 522k
Xbox Series (Oct 2025): 150k

Outsold over 3:1 by the predecessor that itself was underperforming.

Xbox One definitely had an appeal then and no tariffs. PS4 was still the obvious choice for me if you only get one between PlayStation and Xbox, but still.
Xbox Series isn't making the case to why you should buy it over PS5.

Up until the holiday season of 2023, it seemed the Xbox Series X|S was on track to surpass, or at least equal, the Xbox One’s lifetime sales. But as soon as 2024 began, sales fell off a cliff. This not surprisingly coincided with Microsoft’s approval of the Activision acquisition and their “four games to PlayStation” announcement. It’s disappointing that Xbox appeared to view its console user base as less important.

Terrible results.

Xbox One didn't flop out the gate but had a lot of backlash (rightfully so). Backwards compatibility in 2015, Xbox One S in 2016, and Game Pass and Xbox One X in 2017 helped it and helped Xbox Series X/S do reasonably well for about 2 years.
But Xbox hardware sales are dire right now. Worse than most years (if not all) of Xbox One and worse than some years of the original Xbox as well.
We really have to see what Microsoft does going forward, because it's clear for the last several months and even year that Xbox Series has been put out to sea even if it's still in production.

I didn't realize they were only 10 million behind Xbox one. That's actually less than I thought. I guess the Xbox one was doing even worse than I thought it was.

The Xbox One actually started doing incredibly well after the One S redesign. The feeling at the beginning of that generation was way worst than with Series X|S.

That's also when I picked mine up- the OG Xbox One never appealed to me, but the One S was looking awesome, had the 4K Blueray drive and slightly increased performance.

And right around those times they announced 360 Backwards compatibility and Gamepass at 10 usd. They did improve a lot at the end half of that generation.
