Any super console lore master could explain to me why the Wii sold so incredibly much but seemed to have a somewhat early decline?

At this point of the life cycle Nintendo got competition regarding motion controls with Sony's Move controllers for PS3 and Microsoft's Kinect for X360, which were both a big success (especially the latter). PS3 also got a huge price drop and popularity boost with the Slim model.

It was a typical fad. A lot of the audience were not typical gamers, but people drawn into the it after playing things like Wii Sports in a really casual setting.

Like most fads it died as quickly as it took off.

Sony's forecast for the fiscal year is 15 million units, which would amount to about 93 million consoles shipped by March 2026. After that, we still have GTA 6 and Wolverine, as well as several other games for the next year.

Current PS6 rumors put its launch at Fall/Nov 2027, matching Xbox, but I am still thinking there is a good chance PS6 might launch instead in Summer 2028. So there are many months left for PS5 to shine before its successor launches.

That summer 2028 release is just me, a feeling I have, that Sony might not care as much this next generation to match Microsoft. PS4 launched 11/15/2013; Xbox One on 11/22/2013. PS5 on 11/12/2020; Xbox Series on 11/10/2020. In both cases we talking weeks/days between the two, but in both cases I think Sony knew very certainly they had the upper hand in pricing and launch titles.

I think Sony might let Microsoft test the waters with their whatever crazy high price the next Xbox is going to have first in Nov 2027, before "adjusting" their launch to be more successful in Summer 2028.

The PS5 surpasses it 100%. That's never truly been in doubt.
