"the gap grew in favor of the Xbox Series 360 when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox Series X|S" well i guess the 360 would be considered a series as you had the fat, the S and then the E.

And don't forget the 360 Elite! And it was also broken down between the regular unit with the HDD, and the "Arcade" unit without. So yeah, I say you make a good point there.

The Xbox One had a lot of variants too. In addition to different sizes of HDD (512, 1 TB, and 2 TB), you also had a version with a hybrid (SSHD) drive. And while both the PS5 and the One has "Pro" consoles, the Xbox One additionally had the "One S" which was somewhat more powerful than the launch units, a variation the PS5 didn't have.

Building off of that idea you, you could call a refresh of the Series X the X3 (One X, Series X, then the refresh). Similarly you could call a Series S refresh the S4 (360 S, One S, Series S, and then the refresh).

It's been what Microsoft has been doing so far, so why change now? ;)

It's not usually a problem for enthusiasts... but I do feel for non-gamers buying game consoles as gifts!
