by William D'Angelo , posted on 01 September 2022 / 5,142 ViewsThe VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.
This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Nintendo Switch and the Nintendo DS.
The DS launched in November 2004 in North America, December 2004 in Japan, and March 2005 in Europe, while the Nintendo Switch launched worldwide in March 2017. Therefore, the holiday periods for the two consoles do not lineup, which is why there are big increases and decreases.

Can't belive the Game Boy sold 118 million on its first month and then nothing for 20 years
Exactly. Can't believe they have trouble with stock nowadays when Nintendo shipped out 118 million Game Boys at launch, smh.
LMAO
In this case, the Game Boy would be considered a success or a flop?
Well I guess both
If the GB had kept up that momentum, we'd be seeing articles like "RUMOR: Nintendo interested in purchasing Microsoft."
Ok so still 43 M behind the DS, just throwing some random numbers; there is a thread in this website about 2023 sales of switch, and i think the majority is voting for 18M so ill be using that number:
For the rest of 2022 lets say switch sells 10M
2023- 18M
2024- 10M
2025 & beyond - 5M
That’s 43M right there.
You forgot your “if”. Like i said, random numbers, and using the 18M figure for 2023 base off the winning option on the 2023 sales thread, in this site.
Even 2010 Switch's holliday is a strong one. Geez
I can't believe that Nintendo didn't make a team of programmers to bring all the best 3DS games to Switch. The Switch has all this awesome backwards compatibility with the Wii U but not with the 3DS. I guess eventually we will get regular DS stuff on the online subscription.
Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Star Fox, and A Link Between Worlds should all be on the Switch. Then add a few more like Bravely Default, Mario 3D Land, and Mario and Luigi can't remember what it is called.
Metroid Return of Samus, where is the Switch version!!?!?!?
It wouldn't annoy me as they could all be 1080p/60fps games on Switch.
A lot of them might be difficult to make work on the Switch. However, I would like to see more DS/3DS series continue on Switch. Bravely Default did get a sequel. I'd have liked to see a new Etrian Odyssey, which is the closest Nintendo has to a Wizardry title. Or Project X-Zone. Or 7th Dragon. I do think Nintendo should have brought Samus's Return to Switch not long after the 3DS version came out.
The DS used the two screens a lot, but a lot of 3DS games worked on one screen. Especially all the N64 remakes that should be on Switch.
Aight so here me out. Switch will likely end up at around 123 millions this year. Nate has been solid about some sort of console coming out in the first half of 2023. Is it a successor ? Is it a new model that counts in the Switch family ? Who knows how Nintendo will brand it. Only thing we know for a FACT, is that dev kits for a DLSS Switch have been out for like a year or 2 now.
Now, there is three options.
1- It is just a new model and will count towards Switch sales... meaning Switch will most probably end up the best selling console of all time.
2- It is a successor but it is backward compatible with Switch games (cause why the hell would they support MK8D for another year there is no way in hell MK8D would be just ported on the next system,... AGAIN). And that way, it might coexist with the Switch for a while and replace it eventually. Might be counted as seperated, might be in the Switch family.
3- It is replacing the Switch, count as a seperate model. Switch sales TANK.
Don't think it should be removed, but would probably make more sense if it was behind the other lines
