Nintendo announced it will be adding the Nintendo 64 game, Banjo-Kazooie, to the lineup games playable for people subscribed to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack in January 2022.

Banjo-Kazooie first released for the Nintendo 64 in June 1998. The IP is owned by Microsoft and Rare.

The Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Switch Online collection launched this fall with many classic games like Super Mario 64, The legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Star Fox 64, and Mario Kart 64. It is part of the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack, which also includes Sega Genesis games and the Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise DLC.

Would be so cool to get a physical Rare Replay here.

I've never played this game before. I hope it's a good port as I've been hearing a lot of negative reviews of the N64 games on the service and I don't want to play a version that doesn't meet the standard of long-time fans of the series.

We should be finding out throughout today and tomorrow to see how good the emulation of Paper Mario is which may be a way to tell if Banjo's emulation will be good, because not all the N64 games are suffering from bad emulation. It's been kinda hit or miss and hopefully Nintendo has worked out the kinks for these future titles being added. But I highly recommend playing this one and hopefully Banjo Tooie makes it to the service one day. Classics of 3D platforming

Not really, paper mario will run well, but banjo is full 3d it will have issues.

Probably best you play it on Xbox via Rare Replay.

Not really, a port can be altered to have better visuals and performance, emulation is dependent on the emulator itself so dont expect greatness, the nintendo emulator is not that great, dont expect PC level of emulation. This game and all N64 games are best played on PC in 4k-8K with 60fps-120fps and added Anti aliasing.
The xbox rare replay is the best collection of Rare games all with enhanced graphics and very cheap too.

Lets put it this way, I get this N64 emulation for free and I still do not want it, if they add some graphical improvements like AA, and introduce games like wave race, pilot wings then I will redownload this pack.

Wasn't expecting another game so quick. As long as there's at least 1 N64 game per month, I may consider getting the expansion pack by the time my NSO account renews in September. Granted, the emulation needs to be fixed by then too lol

Cool, but Switch owners need a Nuts and Bolts port. The best Rare game ever.

Best? No.
Underrated? Absolutely.

Loved nuts and bolts for what it was, but definitely not as amazing as the first two games, but it also didn't need to be.

Couldn’t agree more. It definitely wasn’t the Banjo-Threeie we wanted, but it was very good in its own way. I loved the way it handled user-generated-content. I’d say it was the highlight of the Rare 360 years.

That's owned by Microsoft, it could happen if Microsoft wants to, they released Ori on the switch so anything is possible.
Also its not the best Rare game, maybe Kameo. I would say sea of thieves if they made a nice single player out of it.

Microsoft allowed Banjo via Switch online expansion.

Microsoft and Nintendo seem to have a relatively chummy relationship it seems.

That game is a N64 game, on a N64 emulator. That was not a microsoft owned game at all.

Microsoft owns Banjo, not Nintendo.
Microsoft purchased RARE and all of that companies intellectual property, it was absolutely Microsofts decision to allow Nintendo to offer that game on Switch online.

It is why you will never see Goldeneye on the Switch expansion... Because even though it is a lauded Nintendo 64 exclusive... Nintendo does not have the rights, another company does... And they don't like to share.

Rumour is that Goldeneye might happen now. It has to be simultaneously approved by Nintendo, Microsoft, and the movie rights owners. Apparently Microsoft and the movie studio were on board, but Nintendo wasn't at the time (as the plans included an Xbox re-release/upgrade). But rumour is that Nintendo might be getting over their objections, as their co-operation with Microsoft deepens. Fingers-crossed!
