Xbox and Kojima Deal Reportedly Close to Being Signed - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 27 June 2021 / 3,746 ViewsThere have been rumors that Xbox has been in talks with Metal Gear Solid and Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima to sign a deal for his next game.
VentureBeat reporter Jeff Grubb in a recent podcast said the deal is close to being signed and one of the reasons Kim Swift joined Xbox Game Studios Publishing as the senior director of cloud gaming is to work with Kojima on his game.
"Kim Swift, who's worked on Portal and Left 4 Dead, and she's been at [Google] Stadia working as, like, their chief creative person, she's coming in specifically to work with Kojima on his game," said Grubb via PureXbox. "[Xbox] didn't say Kojima, it said in the story it's about working with independent developers, [but] it's Kojima."
"It's close [to being signed]. It's at a point where, I think, it's not going to not get signed. They are just figuring out details basically. And I'll have more to say about that soon."
Xbox business lead for Asia Jeremy Hinton previously stated "Japan is currently the largest and fastest growing market in the world, with particularly strong growth in the last 12 months." Xbox going forward does plan to localize all first-party games for Japan, revealed Hinton. He believes the Xbox Series S will be in more demand as he has "seen a lot of Japanese users on Twitter tweeting about how cute and compact the console is."

Seriously... Nobody have any clue, those "so called" insiders are just guessing and hoping to hit the jackpot with their random bets. I mean, we saw how completly off they were at E3 and they keep going. Problem is that as soon as one out of a millions of dumb things they 'predict' happens, the Internet goes crazy and give them the credit they need to keep doing that :)
Well, the thing is that those are exactly that: random assumptions from them. At the end, some of them will turn out to be true but they are just guessing like anyone else. There are rumors about Kojima for a while but it could turn out to be working with Sony too at the end... Who knows. And if it is finally something with Xbox, then those "insiders" will take the credit for just placing bets basically on assumptions that may turn out to be true. I do not believe any of those "insiders" are actually... "insiders"...
While this deal may end up happening, Grubb is still an idiot who just throws shit at the wall and Hope's something sticks. The E3 studio acquisitions and Scarlet Nexus game pass bs was proof of this.
I dunno about "proof", but I agree in general.
Hoping for better than Death Stranding
XB is going to fund the most expensive, most over-budget walking simulator ever made?
While I was really disappointed by Death Stranding, we know this guy can produce good games (or at least his team). We saw that in the past. I'm a huge fan of the Metal Gear series and I would love either Sony or Microsoft to just buy the IP from Konami and then have Kojima's studio producing it :) That would be sweet. (no way it is going to happen tho ahah)
"Japan is currently the largest and fastest growing market in the world, with particularly strong growth in the last 12 months."
And that's a direct quote of MS. It's possible it's the fastest growing market FOR MS, but then it wouldn't by the largest market for MS. I'm not sure in what market it's the largest. Is Xbox getting into pachinko or what?
I just see a generalised statement that without giving any specifics or context just leaves us with the question of what is the quotes actual purpose ,
I hope the contract stipulates that Kojima can't spend $1bn a year on this project.
Death stranding was the best game of last gen. Can;t wait for what comes next.
lol
