Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Is an 'Expansion and Enhancement to the PS4 Game' [Update]

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales Is an 'Expansion and Enhancement to the PS4 Game' [Update] - News

Update:

Some new information on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales has been posted on Bloomberg. It looks like Sony Interactive Entertainment EVP head of European business Simon Rutter was wrong in calling the game an "expansion and an enhancement to the previous game."

Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will be smaller than the PS4 game, however, it is a new game and not just an expansion.

The person Bloomberg talked with described the game more like Naughty Dog's Uncharted: Lost Legacy. That game was short than the mainline Uncharted games and was sold for $40, rather than the usual $60 for new games.

Marvel’s Spider-Man on PS4 takes around 40 hours to complete, so Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales will most likely be significantly short in length.

Original Article:

Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Insomniac Games yesterday announced Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales for the PlayStation 5 and that it would launch in Holiday 2020.

Sony Interactive Entertainment EVP head of European business Simon Rutter speaking with The Telegraph in an interview revealed the game isn't a full-blown sequel, but is instead an expansion and enhancement on on the 2018 PS4 game, Marvel’s Spider-Man.

"I guess you could call it an expansion and an enhancement to the previous game," Rutter said. "There’s a substantial Miles Morales component—which is the expansion element—but also within the game as well there’s been major enhancements to the game and the game engine, obviously deploying some of the major PlayStation 5 technology and features."

I'm confused. Is it saying that it's the original game, with improvements, as well as the Miles Morales expansion? Or that, it's just a First Light situation, where enhancements have been made to the original games mechanics? If it's the former, I might have to just hold off finishing Spider-Man entirely then...

It really sounds like a First Light situation to me. Also, I kinda called this in a different thread. 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄

Not surprising I guess. Was too soon for a full length game to come out. I am a bot surprised that it is coming nearly two years after the original. I would assume that a fully new sequel would not be too far off.

So like Infamous First Light, expected.

So will this work like Smart Delivery where if I own SM on PS4 I can upgrade to this enhanced version free or at least buy an expansion, or do I have to buy the entire game again? Really sucks that they are so vague on a lot of stuff still. But I think they’ll handle it the right way.

Just seeing on the show it was obvious it was a case similar to Left Behind and Lost Legacy. Very cheap to make DLC that can be priced near full AAA game for the duration of the game and sell a lot. Well if the game is good that is fine. And let`s see how many improvements in graphic it will bring or if it will also release on PS4.

I am kinda disappointed they aren’t also making a PS4 version. I mean, it’s not surprising they aren’t but with Microsoft doing cross-gen with most of their first party titles it feels like Somy might have missed a trick.

They want to push for faster adoption rate on PS5. For PS4 they are releasing massive exclusives until the months prior to releasing PS5 while MS slept for almost whole gen.

Same engine? Could be cross gen.

Could but from the clip seems like PS5 only even if looking like a PS4 game.

Given its the same engine it could be the same quality as the original on PS4. While the PS5 version could eliminate load times, perhaps boost to 60 fps, 4K, added effects, etc. I've been open to cross gen content given engines scale better now.

Certainly could. But from the lot of bizarre posts trying to clarify it seems like they looked on improving the game, but certainly that wasn't visible on the trailer.

No release date so it could be a while before it hits the market.

It will launch with PS5.

Ah, didn't notice. Well I'm sure it will have more polish on PS5. However, the trailer does look like PS4.

Twitter is saying this exec was wrong and it’s a First Light/Lost Legacy stand-alone smaller type game.

khotboat (on 12 June 2020)

So its like infamous first light or uncharted lost legacy?
