
Minecraft Sales Top 200 Million, 126 Million Monthly Active Players - Sales
by William D'Angelo , posted on 18 May 2020 / 2,594 ViewsMinecraft continues to put up impressive numbers. The sandbox survival game has now sold over 200 million units, with 126 million people playing the game monthly. Sales for Minecraft previously topped 100 million units sold in 2016.
The number of new players increased 25 percent last month, as the popularity of the game has grown during the ongoing pandemic. There was also a 40 percent uptick in multiplayer sessions.
Minecraft developer Mojang over the weekend announced a new name for the studio in celebration of the 11th anniversary of Minecraft. The new name for the developer is Mojang Studios.

Microsoft acquired Minecraft developer Mojang and all the rights to the game in 2014 for $2.5 billion. In 2014, the game had sold over 50 million units.
