Congrats Nintendo! It feels so good to see Nintendo comeback from being a laughing stock of a company with the Wii U to now a legit console maker that everyone loves. Crazy how the Switch not even 3 years old yet outsold a 6 year old console.

Not trying to take anything away from the Switch as it is a great machine. but let's be honest it's not that crazy it out sold the XBO in far less time. the XBO is a disaster.

The top 5 games above 10 million with Mario Kart very close to 20. The switch is a money maker for nintendo

That's fantastic, they took the WiiU's failure to heart and fixed everything that could be fixed, and now they are reaping the rewards. Now we'll have to see how well it keeps the momentum once the PS5 and the scarlet release.

Never underestimate Nintendo, they really do wonders under pressure.

Congrats to Switch and Nintendo. Happened sooner than I expected if I'm being honest. Next platform for it to overtake is the SNES at ~49 million, so shouldn't be long before you have to make another article Will :P

Probably not too long being the holidays.

You think they can do it this year? I'm not sure. I really dont know what the average December weeks are. I hope so. That would be yuuuge.

Switch is likely to stay above 1 million per week until Christmas. With Christmas on a Wednesday that week will see lower sales.

Nintendo did almost everything right. Launching in March instead of the holidays to allow the early adopter rush to be separate from the Christmas rush. This effectively gave them two huge sales periods in the first year. Releasing with their two biggest flagship IPs in the first year. Getting a ton of exclusives out in 2019, along with Switch Lite. I'd say their only slip up was allowing Poke'mon to launch in a sort of disappointing state.

Microsoft on the other hand did almost everything wrong. Bundling in Kinect to make their console $100 more than the competition, while less powerful. Attempting to put serious DRM on the XB1 pre-launch. Putting their exclusives on PC, and just having a lackluster exclusives lineup in general.

Onwards and upwards. Next rival system to go, PSP. Then 360, PS3, PS1.

aris4me (on 12 December 2019)

Well... Switch is going crazy!!! and it keeps going!!!

Dante9 (on 12 December 2019)

Xbox360 and PS3 were neck and neck when this gen was kicked off, and look what happened. If that's anything to go by, what kind of next gen is it going to be for Microsoft, starting at the third position? Or would you argue that everything is reset to zero at launch?

mimiku (on 11 December 2019)

im sony fanbois to the core but have this mad respect for nintendo, i mean just take a look at their best selling games all of them is switch exclusive!! Sony need to learn a lot from it for example by not wasting any money for non exclusive tittle like that overated death stranding.

exclusive are bad to the game industry?? which is kinda ironic since most cancerous tittle all these years is multiplatform
