MechWarrior Reboot Announced For PC and Xbox 360 - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 14 July 2009 / 5,481 ViewsFollowing the teasing earlier in the week, a new MechWarrior game has been confirmed by co-creator Jordan Weisman and Russ Bullock, president of Piranha Games, in an interview with IGN.com. The PC and Xbox 360 game will be titled 'MechWarrior' and is being developed by Piranha Games in Unreal Engine 3, in collaboration with Weisman's company Smith & Tinker.

Some early information and details:
- MechWarrior is set on the planet Deshler in the year 3015, and places players in the role of Adrian Khol, a wayward nobleman who prefers partying and shirking responsibility over his training and studies.
- The two companies Smith & Tinker and Piranha Games are still talking to potential publishers that could determine the final production budget
- The game will feature a full single-player campaign, as well as support for a four-player co-op campaign, and a full set of multiplayer options
- The developers want to give a sense of information warfare, using everything from unmanned drones surveying the battlefield from above to light scout mechs relaying information to teammates
- Every class of mech will really matter in this game; it's not just a race to the heaviest, most powerful mechs
- The developers want to reward you for picking a mech and sticking with it - you will gain experience and become better at piloting your chosen mech
- At least four mechs have been revealed so far: Jenner (light class), both the Warhammer and the Rifleman (heavy class), and an Atlas Prime, a feared assault-class mech
- Cross-platform play for all modes is a large goal of the developers
Many fans have been moaning about the frequent non-showing of this franchise over the past years, no thanks to the closing of FASA Studios. They will now be happy to see that the next game is not only alive and kicking, but looking awesome as well on current hardware. No release date or even publisher yet but we'd like to think it'll be 2010.

Also, perhaps to revive interest in the MechWarrior games ahead of this just-announced reboot, Smith & Tinker is allowing Mechwarrior 4 to be released for free. It will be bundled with all the expansions and will be available at MekTek.net on a later unconfirmed date for PC.

since the game will be free, maybe I can see what all the fuss is about!
I think you're confused. The NEW MW game being developed for PC/XBox 360 won't be FREE. The MW4 (+expansions) is what will be FREE from MekTek.net website.
I can still remember playing the original MechWarrior on the PC and beating the game. The last level had like 14 Mech coming at you and you had to take them out one at a time. The 2nd game was also great. Never really played he 3rd or 4th. Can't wait to see how this looks on my XBox 360.
Microsoft, pick this up now. just do it. DO IT.
can't wait for this game. it would be nice if they could port Mechwarrior 4 and release it on xbla - this sure would make some people interested in the sequel.
As long as it doesn't suck (like MW4 did, compared to MW3 and MW2), I will totally be getting this on my PC.
Normally I avoid PC versions of games, if there is a console version... but MechWarrior deserves a place of honor (as long as it doesn't suck like MW4, as I stated) -- it is too cool for 2005 technology.
Day 1 purchase...I can see many expansions for this as well, if it is done right!
I hope this game coming out for free (Mechwarror 4 and its expansions) will see an increase in the number of people playing NetBattletech - I might rejoin, I had some fun times fighting company v. company battles in MechWarrior 4 Mercs (that's 12 on 12 for you non battletech folks)
since the game will be free, maybe I can see what all the fuss is about!
DAY 1 PURCHASE!!!!!!!!!!
I used to play this on my old computer!
Do want.
More like Unreal Engine 3.75 !

Adds to list of must haves...
