Wow, europe has bought this game strongly. This is strange, usually the US is the stronger region, in this case europe not only beats it but doubles the american number. Impressive.

Europe loves that PlayStation though.

Actually for most PS4 games, Europe is ahead of the US in sales. Plus, Zelda probably had a bigger impact on US sales than EU.

It's true. Europe likes PS more. Americans seem to prefer Xbox. Plus, you know, having a female lead REALLY turns Americans off XD

if you go back through the charts 3rd person action games are more popular in europe and racing games even more so, the opposite is true when it comes to fps and rpg's especially jrpg's, now there are exceptions but overall it holds out.

Maybe Champions League's QF matches advertisement force it a bit. Barca-PSG famous game got it also.

Yepp it's true even based on the Amazon sales. UK, Germany - big regions like that the game outsold Zelda big time. In Canada and US Zelda was way above Horizon. Overall, Horizon is on TOP!!

Better than Bloodborne?

estebxx TheTruthHurts! (on 09 April 2017)

@KLAMarine

In many ways yeah i can see it being better than Bloodborne, (and i say this as someone who beated Bloodborne 9 times and BB is my current "Best game for PS4 so far" though i can see that changing once i beat Horizon).

They are indeed hard to compare, Horizon is a game i dont see myself playing more than 2 times, but thats not because it isnt as fun as BB but rather because i dont need to start another Playthrough to fight the coolest machines/enemies in the game, i can just explore the world and find more Thunderjaws / Stormbirds etc.and have amazing fights with them, the same can not be said about BB where if i wanna fight Lady Maria, Gascoigne or Gherman i need to start a new playthrough and play all the way through just to fight them again.

BB is a linear game, with memorable boss fights, a story and lore left for interpretation, completely focused on the atmosphere and combat/gameplay, while Horizon is a huge open world game thats incredibly interesting and FUN to explore, with tons of (great) side content, great atmosphere too and all of this without compromising its gameplay, in fact its gameplay is just as great and enjoyable as BB, (which i never expected but yeah... its TRUE).

In the end by design they are very different games and it is hard to compare them, but i can indeed say that (even though i havent beaten Horizon) i can see already that its on BB level of quality and fun.

And if you are someone who just wants great gameplay with an awesome atmosphere (which is what BB offers), then Horizon gives you those same things plus much more and thats why i can see it being better, but since they are so different by design, the one you like the most will come down to personal preference.

I didn't want to mention that game but yes it's sold so much more then it WW it's crazy. Providing it gets the assistance of bundling this holiday like Uncharted 4 did, it should sell 10m+ over the next couple of years. #BEAST

You have to admit it would be fantastic to see Nintendo fans eat all that crow if Horizon does outsell BOTW lifetime. They would probably cry about installbase but if Horizon manages to sell 10 million units sold it would be quite the achievement and a tall order for Zelda which typically sells around 8 million units.

"You have to admit it would be fantastic to see Nintendo fans eat all that crow if Horizon does outsell BOTW lifetime."

Who in particular, Qwark?

"They would probably cry about install base"

Is that an invalid point to bring up?

  • 0
Dyllyo (on 08 April 2017)

Whoa. It really did beat BotW's combined sales numbers. Crazy.

It's nice to see a new IP make it every once in a while.

  • 0
Ljink96 Dyllyo (on 08 April 2017)

Well...considering the install base of the Switch and Wii U vs. PS4 I'd be surprised if it didn't surpass it. And I'm pretty sure Horizon is based on 1 week, being released on Feb. 28th vs. Zelda's March 3rd.

  • +4
hush404 Dyllyo (on 08 April 2017)

Horizon did launch on a system with 56 million install where as BotW did so on a new system and an old that had ~13mill.

Actually the Switch and Wii U verison were completely sold out everywhere the first week, while Horizon had no stock problems. Horizon had 2 more days to sell and a far bigger user base. We will see in the long run which game sells better ;-)

StreaK Dyllyo (on 09 April 2017)

Hell yeahhh Horizon rocks!!!! Also, the sales of a console have nothing to do with it. for either game, no matter what, the fans will or will not be getting it no matter what. Whether the PS4 had 56 million or 15 million, the sales would not be affected much. On a 56 million selling console, Uncharted 4 only has 8 million sold. GTAV has 15 million. Horizon is doing well and beyond and showing everyone what kind of fan power a new IP can provide.
Let's face it...no Zelda has ever surpassed 10 million sold. Not even 9 million. The Last of Us has sold over 10. No matter what game it is, it's all about the fans in the end....they decide and will always be there if the game is truly excellent and delivers. :)

If it is over-tracked, by how much is probably mostly dependent on digital. If digital is 20% and it has a second week drop of 75% (fairly normal), VGC's first week would put it at 2.74 million after 2 weeks. That's within their margin of error, but i guess we'll have to wait and see.

  • +2
mountaindewslave shikamaru317 (on 08 April 2017)

the numbers are strange, VGChartz estimate is probably off a bit as that would be a gigantic second week drop considering we have Sony's confirmed two week numbers including digital

  • +3
Normchacho shikamaru317 (on 09 April 2017)

Remember that it sold 2.6 million in just under 2 weeks. It was 13 days of NA sales, and 12 days of Asian and European sales.

So the 2 week total is likely to be closer to 2.7-2.75 million I would imagine.
