Nice! That's 500k more than FFXIII sold in its first week, and FFXIII went on to sell 7.5m on consoles (plus 676k on Steam, and who knows how many digitally on console). Also, Square mentioned that, including digital sales, this is the fastest selling Final Fantasy in the history of the franchise. I imagine we're going to see excellent numbers down the road (though I wish we could tell what digital sales figures were like!).

I wish that the Switch was more powerful cause i believe that Final Fantasy would do best to ditch xbox and switch to the switch. It wouldnt be much of a gamble cause even if it only sold the same amount at least they gave it a shot. Nintendo gamers are more familiar with Final Fantasy aswell given they get a lot of spin offs.

FF7 probably could come to the Switch as it is built using UE4 tools, so it could scale down. Highly doubt FFXV will show up. I think SE wants to fulfill obligations to PS4 and then never, ever touch the luminous engine again.

I got into an argument with someone because I said it was gonna be 8:1 but it seems that even my projection was too conservative.

Seems like pretty even sales on both consoles ;)

Regardless, those are straight up insane numbers either way you slice it.

This is not good at all for Xbox,Square can effectively drop every support for Xbox if they are making this kind of sales on that platform.

U mad ? 260k FW is what many devs wish their games to sell, yes, the PS4 version sold a ton more, but it's still a good ammount on X1

Hapuc12 Hapuc12 (on 11 January 2017)

No not mad concerned for Xbox players i play on PS4 and if they keep it this way they could lose a lot of games for Xbox,260k is good for a 2-3-4 year development,it's not good for a 10 year development.

I am so confused why they released the last few on Xbox even... Seriously, outselling 10:1?

Should have been an exclusive.

Japanese usually sells very strong
strange that it sold more in the west

  • 0
ABizzel1 thewastedyouth (on 12 January 2017)

Not really.

18m NA
20m EU
4m JP

The PS4 market is 4x - 5x larger in those western continents than JP (which is just a country), and yet the JP version is neck and neck with them.

yes you are right, my oversight

CosmicSex (on 11 January 2017)

2.65...million you mean... Also, a 9:1 breakdown is unreal. This is an effective PS4 exclusive simply because Xbox gamers aren't buying it. Why? This pattern isn't healthy for anyone.

Nice, 50% of the shipped copies and 1/4 of the devs' goal

  • 0
Luke888 Luke888 (on 11 January 2017)

Why so many downvotes ? My comment was supposed to be positive 1/4 sold FW for the dev's goal is great, they will make it eventually, perhaps with some help from a PC/Switch port

  • +2
kodeindahjunk Luke888 (on 12 January 2017)

Let me tell you why.

Because gamers or fanboys with fragile feelings love to hear good things about their favorite loved games that they are emotionally attached to. The lie about 5 million copies sold in one day that the number was tracked from every retail stores on this earth (sounds like BS, right). That lie, they loved to hear and accept it as the truth.

So when you present the truth to them or even something logical, they will downvote it simply because it hurts their feelings.

Up in the west compared to XIII and it's going to sell much better in the long run than Lightning's FF. Overall though, it's probably going to sell less because XBO version isn't helping and because of Japanese numbers.

NSS7 (on 12 January 2017)

If this is exclusives it might receive special marketing from Sony to boost sales.

  • -1
kodeindahjunk (on 11 January 2017)

What?! And they said this is the fastest selling FF in the franchise. This game didn't even break 1million in Japan. The conclusion is, there are many idiots at Squenix that can't do math.

This franchise won't go anywhere near the success of FF games in the Ps1 era if they keep deluding themselves.

  • -3
Dyllyo kodeindahjunk (on 11 January 2017)

Dude. Calm yourself. You are obviously angry and delusional. How is selling over 2.5 million in a single week bad? Check your numbers. When was the last time FF sold THAT much in a single week?

  • +6
kodeindahjunk kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

When?! Why don't you check it out yourself. When was FF games sold more than 2million copies in a single week in japan alone & more in other country?

  • -2
think-man kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

Well theres this new thing called digital. We don't know the digital sales but SE do so it probably was the fastest selling when you add 20-30% for digital sales.

  • 0
kodeindahjunk kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

Hahahaha... you used "probably". At least i found a guy that is not fully convinced by media& Squenix. Squenix told to eurogamer that they sold 5million, and idiot fanboys ate that lie. It's impossible to track all sales from all retail stores on this earth in one day.

Even if you add 50% from digital sales, it still can't beat previous FF games. Therefore if Squenix call it the fastest selling FF, they are delusional. Fastest selling digital game, yes that's a maybe but don't tell me it's the fastest selling FF game.

  • -1
think-man kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

SE said they shipped 5 million, to SE shipped is as good as sold. If people are saying that it sold 5 million at retail then they didn't read the article correctly. I haven't seen anyone state that mind you.

  • +2
think-man kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

And you are also forgetting that this is the first time a mainline Final Fantasy has released worldwide at the same time. Yeah if you align the sales of other Final Fantasy games then they are ahead but since this released worldwide and shipped 5 million in one hit then that makes it the fastest selling in SE mind. They are using PR tricks but they aren't lying, no other Final Fantasy game shipped 5 million in its first week.

  • +1
fluky-nintendy kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

FFs have been released with significant lag between Japan and the West. With this one being released simultaneously everywhere got the best numbers unsurprisingly.

  • 0
kodeindahjunk kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

"since this released worldwide and shipped 5 million in one hit then that makes it the fastest selling in SE mind"

Shipped is shipped.
Sold is sold.
You need to know the difference.

You need to stop relating that "5 million shipped" with "the fastest selling". If i shipped a game 100 million copies to retail stores and nobody bought them. Then i said it's the fastest selling game ever because retail stores bought them, you all would call me an idiot.

  • -1
think-man kodeindahjunk (on 12 January 2017)

Im pretty sure everyone has been saying shipped, show me these guys saying it sold 5 million retail in its first week.

Read your previous comment, you will find:
"since this released worldwide and shipped 5 million in one hit then that makes it the fastest selling in SE mind"
"SE said they shipped 5 million, to SE shipped is as good as sold"

You were talking as if shipped is sold.

"SE said they shipped 5 million, to SE shipped is as good as sold"
You clearly don't understand how retail chains work, sometimes retail chains can still return products that do not sell as expected. They made agreements with publishers.

That's just two. Use google if you want to find more.

If you want to find idiot fanboys claiming that it's 5million copies shipped, check forums and comment sections. You will find many of them.

think-man , I am done talking to you. The way you think and form an argument is weird. Don't expect me to respond to you again.

You can't tell the difference between shipped and sold. You think like you know how retail chains work on all levels, but you don't.

Bye.

think-man kodeindahjunk (on 13 January 2017)

There are so many things wrong with what you posted, you contradict yourself at every turn. I can tell the difference between shipped and sold, you quoted me a comment I made about SE saying "since this released worldwide and shipped 5 million in one hit then that makes it the fastest selling in SE mind"
"SE said they shipped 5 million, to SE shipped is as good as sold" read it a again cause i dont know how many ways i can type this. SE never said sold at retail they said shipped and to SE shipped means as good as sold because the merc has been paid for they are as good as happy.

Now let me put this simply for you and ill repeat it again because it seems like you are struggling. If a publisher sends 5 million copies to the shops then said publisher has sold 5 million copies that's given as long as there is no recalls from unsold stock given the video game industry is similar to the magazine industry. I never said anything about people being these 5 million copies day one did i kodeindajunk? no i didn't so stop putting words in my mouth and spitting out complete frudge. You are basically arguing with yourself because I said from the begging that SE considers them sold, I never said people physically purchased these. But since you aren't replying looks like ill have the last laugh, unless you are going to contradict yourself again.

Yeah, the only platform that could challenge PS4 for KH sales would be the Switch, if it gets KH3. Xbox has never had any KH presence.

  • 0
pastro243 Hiku (on 11 January 2017)

I don't know, even DS ones didn't get to the PSP one in sales. It would do good, but I wouldn't say challenge especially considering the huge userbase difference

It could be 100%. KH3 might not come to xbox one.

@Bandorr Don't worry. KH3 co-director Tai Yasue said that KH3 can be enjoyed as a single experience so the past games aren't needed for Xbox gamers. ;)

@Hiku I have KH 2.8 outselling the Xbox One version of FF XV. lol
