Most Disappointing Game of 2016

Most Disappointing Game of 2016 - Article

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 10 January 2017 / 7,506 Views

For all of the good games that came out last year, 2016 also had its fair share of disappointing releases. By this we don't necessarily mean the worst games of the year - just those that fell the most short of expectations, be it due to extreme levels of hype in pre-release media setting up gamers for an almighty fall, to major developer names and reputations creating lofty expectations that failed to be met. Here's the shortlist for Most Disappointing Game of 2016.

The Shortlist:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan

ReCore

Mighty No. 9

No Man's Sky

 Star Fox Zero

The Winner:

No Man's Sky

No Mans Sky

This was easily the most one-sided 'victory' of any category award this year. No Man’s Sky, rather predictably, takes our award for Most Disappointing Game of 2016. We had high hopes for this game last year, but boy did we call that one wrong. Much has already been written about Sean Murray and Hello Games' unfulfilled promises for No Man's Sky - in fact the post-launch controversy this created was such a huge part of the gaming year that it soon felt like criticising the game was akin to flogging a dead horse. Well, dead horse or not, No Man's Sky was a colossal disappointment, possibly the biggest of the generation so far.

Most disapointing game 2016 to me was Star Fox ZEro. Basically ruins everything the series ever stood for. Destroyed the older games' easy to learn hard to master mentality completely.
Recore, actually a game with flaws i like. Most of the time. Could've been way better though.

Totally agree. Star Fox Zero was completely ruined by that control scheme. Nintendo was so obsessed to justify the GamePad they ruined one of their key franchises in the process.

I said this wasn't going to be good ever since I saw the first proper gameplay trailer released.

I dunno, I feel like with their pedigrees, nostalgia factor and long absence from the scene mighty No.9 and SF Zero would have to be bigger disappointments. They have both dealt much beloved franchises possibly mortal blows.

The main disappointment with TMNT is the lack of couch-coop, and the repetitive campaign missions. But I enjoyed the game still.

No Man's Sky is at least getting updates, got a pretty big one the other week. Imo, Mighty No. 9 did everything wrong and should have "won" this, with Star Fox behind it.

I think that's it. If you already have low expectations for a game then you are not going to be all that disappointed when the game isn't very good.
